During the past week only twenty-five men were reclassified. Placed in class 1-A were: Wil liam Orion Davis, Jr., and Her man Conard. Placed in class 2-A was Carl Swanger. Turpin Knocks Out Nazi Planes An Eighth Air Force Bomber Station, England TSgt. Richard E. Turpin, an Eighth Air Force radio operator and waist gunner, on a B-24 Liberator in the 3rd Bomb ardment Division, has been award ed the Air Medal for "meritorious achievement . . . coolness, courage and skill" during bombing attacks on Nazi war making installations. Sergeant Turpin's wife, Mrs. Sara E. Turpin, lives at Sylva and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John T. Turpin, in Waynesville, Before induction Sergeant Turpin was em ployed as a show horse trainer. He is a graduate of Waynesville Town ship high school. In presenting the Air Medal to the North Carolina flier, Col. Ern est F. Wackwitz, Jr., group com mander, commended his skillful participation in bombing attacks which are "knocking out German resistance and helping to insure victory for the Allied armies' in vasion of Western Europe." and Praise on Wednesday evening at 8:00 o'clock.
