(One Day Nearer Victory) THURSDAY, OCTOBER 26, THE WAYNESVILLE MOUNTAINEER 19 Past 12 ft DEATHS Gibbs Mason Funeral services were held last Thursday at the Bethel Baptist church at 3:30 o'clock for Gibbs Mason, 81, who died Wednesday at 11:30 at the home of his daugh ter, Mrs. J. W, Kinsland, in the Bethel section. Rev. Avery Peek officiated. Burial was in the Bethel cemetery. Mr. Mason had been a life-long resident of Haywood county and was a retired farmer and stock raiser. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Kinsland, and Mrs. G. W. Justice, both of Bethel; three grandchildren and six great grand-ehilden. Awarded Star Vinson Davis Last Rites were conducted at 2 o'clock on Saturday afternoon at the Ratcliffe Cove Baptist church for Vinson Davis, Haywood coun ty farmer, who died at his home in the Ratcliff Cove area on Thurs day. The Rev. Oder Burnette of ficiated. Pallbearers were nephews, all brothers, of Dr. Davis as follows: Ralph, Carl, Alvin, Alden, Bill and Uonrv Turner. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. j Ella Mehaffey Davis; three sons, Roy, Ernest and Lawrence Davis, , all of Waynesville, a daughter, '. Lucille, of Ratcliffe Cove, and a j sister, Mrs. John W. Turner, of Canton. J Garrett Funeral Home was in j charge of the arrangements. PFC. LOYD TERRELL DER RICK, son of Mi. and Mrs. A. N. Hen-irk. it f Balsam, has been awarded the Bronze Star for merit orious action while in combat in France. Pfc. Derrick is serving with' the A Good Line Mrs. Fred Pruett Funeral services were conducted at the Inman church near Canton on Saturday afternoon for Mrs. Fred Pruett, 43, who died at her home in the Inman area on Wed nesday night. The Rev. Hannah Powell and the Rev. Tom Erwin officiated. Burial was in the ceme tery nearby. Surviving in addition to her hus band and two sons .Robert, U. t. Army, serving in New Guinea and I Troye Pruett, of Haywood county, are five brothers. Glenn Clontz Funeral services were held at 10:30 o'clock at the Freewill Bap tist church, Highland Park, Can ton, on Saturday morning for Glenn Clontz, 33, of Canton, who was found dead in the Holtzclaw woods on Wednesday night. Rev. Harrison Benfield officiated. Surviving are the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harrison Clontz; his widow, Mrs. Pauline Lindsay Clontz; a daughter, Dorothy; two brothers, Rufus, a twin, and Fred Clontz; three sisters; Mrs. A. R. Rhodarmer, of Leicester, Mrs. Robert Parham, and Mrs. Charles Singleton, both of the Canton section. Bank Directors Giving Barbecue The directors of the First Na tional Bank will be host to a bar becue on Saturday afternoon to the stockholders and employees of the bank. As special invited guests, will be all those who made nurchases of the 17 fat baby calves at the recent show and sale. The bank purchased the reserve champion of the show which was won bv Ted Francis, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Francis. The re serve champion sold for 37 cents a pound at the sale. The barbecue will be served at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Siler near the Country Club. Mr. Siler is preparing the barbecue. The bank also purchased the champion pig of the sale. The pig is also being' barbecued and will be served Saturday afternoon. The bank has been one of the main supporters of the fat calf show and sale in the county for several years. First Army and is at present somewhere in Germany. Christ School To Play Here Saturday Night The Christ School Greenies will meet the Mountaineers on the local field at eight o'clock Saturday night, for the first night meeting of the two teams of a long stand ing rival record. The visitors come to Waynesville with an unscored and undefeated record for the season. They re cently played Hendersonville to a scoreless tie on a wet field. Coach Weatherby said yesterday his men came out of the Hender sonville game in tine shape, and lots of attention is being placed in the Christ School game, as it is always one of the Mountaineers' hardest battles.
