Ketner, who ent ered the service on December 22, 1942, and has . been overseas for the past 16 months, has recently re ceived a letter of commendation from his platoon commander, ac cording to information received from Headquarters in Germany. The letter in part read as follows: "I desire to express my deepest appreciation and officially commend you for your outstanding perfor mance of duty, as Weapons Ser geant of the .First Platoon during the past year. , "The manner in which you cared for all the automatic weapons of the platoon has kept them in superb working order. - Not one weapon has been lost and repairs have been held to a minimum due to your m -iring and faithful devotion to duty. Although the automatic weapons under your control have been exposed to the adverse condi tions of war and rain for weeks at a time not one weapon has been condemned by the ordnance in spectors. On the contrary, the weapons have been commended be cause of their excellent condition. In addition to your- performance of duty as weapons Sergeant you have frequently worked as a mem ber of the platoon in its perfor mance of many missions under fire from the enemy. Always your work has shown demonstrated ini tiative and ability to control work ing parties. It has been a pleasure to work with such a man as you have repeatedly proven yourself to be." At the time he entered the ser vice Sgt- Ketner was owner and manager of the Farmers Exchange. His wife, the former Miss Jewel Hipps, is residing with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Sgt Tat . who has been in the ervice since February, 1944, is a member of the 34th Bomb Group, a unit of the third Bombardment Division, the division cited by the President for its now historic England-Africa shuttle bombing Mes serschmitt plants at Regensburg, Germany. 18 per cent less than the number of pirsons who were estimated to have visited this park during De cember 1943. Of this total 84 per cent came from Tennessee and North Carolina. In 1944 it was estimated that 534,586 persons visited the park. This is D9 per cent more than were estimated to have visited the park in 1943. These visitovs came from at least 45 known d'fferent states and the District of Columbia.
