HAYWOOD'S QUOTA IS $3,890
The quota for Haywood County is $3,890.00.
' The Waynesville Area is to raise one-half of this
amount, or $1,945.
There were 850 eases of Polio reported in
North Carolina during 1944.
There were 13 deaths in North Carolina dur
ing last year from Polio.
Haywood County lost two children from this
dread disease.
650 children were hospitalized, with 450 of
them being treated at Hickory.
The expenses of last year's drive in Hay
wood County was only $8.29. One-half of the
money raised stays in Haywood County to help
victims and their families. The Polio Fund pays
all doctors' bills of any victim, ambulance hire,
local hospital bills, transportation to and from
hospital. You are not charged anything if your r
child is sent to Hickory for treatment. You can
only make a donation there if you wish.
White and colored, rich and poor, are treat
ed alike.
If permanently handicapped the Polio Fund
will give the child a college education so as to
enable the victim to earn their own living and
not be a burden on society. If the case is fatal
the fund pays all funeral expenses.
A donation to the Polio Fund, no matter
how small, is your insurance policy for scientific
medical treatmet without any expense to you
whatsoever.
