County Library
Board Meets; Miss
Young Resigns
Announcement was made at a
meeting of the Haywood county
library on Tuesday morning of
the resignation, of Miss Adah
Young, assistant to the county li
brarian. Regret was expressed by
the board as Miss Young has ren
dered a wide service during the
three years she has been associat
ed with the library here.
Prior to the establishment of
the county-wide system last year
Miss Young was librarian for two
years for the Waynesvilie Public
Library. Miss Young has seen the
library grow from a city to a coun
ty system and the circulation ex
pand accordingly.
Miss Young's resignation will
take effect as of April 1. No an
nouncement has been made of
what work Miss Young will take
up or who will be named lo fill
Hie vacancy caused by her resig
nation. During the meeting the county
librarian, Miss Margaret Johnston,
announced that circulation during
the month of March was the largest
ever noted in the Waynesvilie area
which was 2.073, while the Canton
library circulated 1.384. making a
total of 3.457 in the two towns.
The calls for books at the 17
book stations of the county is
steadily growing and during the
past year 3.026 books have been
sent out to the county stations.
Announcement was made by the
librarian of a gift of a table and
chairs for the children's room by
the Waynesvilie Woman's Chili
Plans were also made to have
printed book marks "ln Menior
iam", to be used in books that
are being presented to the county
library as memorials to various
people. This action was taken due
to the numerous requests by the
public regarding the presentation
of memorial books, a great many
to be made in memory of men
killed in action during World War
II.
