Announcement has been made
of the marriage of Mrs. Eleanor
Stone Turner and William Theo
dore Raby, both of the RatelilT
Cove section, which took place at
the Methodist parsonage of Long's
Chapel, Methodist church. Lake
Junaluska, at 8 o'clock Wednes
day evening, April 18. The Rev.
Miles A. McLean, pastor officiated
using the ring ceremony.
The vows were spoken before
an improvised altar in trout ot
the fireplace which was banked
with pine boughs and largo bas
kets of white gladioli and snap
dragons on either side. The inn ti
tle was covered with pine branches
and large brass eandlebia held
white tapers. Evergreens and
Dogwood were used throughout
the dining room and living rooms,
lighted by candles.
Before the ceremony, Miss Anna
Glosser, pianist, played "Libcs
traum." The bride entered on the arm
of her son, H. C. Tinner. She
wore a silk suit of powder blue

Scout Troop
Rev. Robert G Tatum, rector
of Grace Episcopal Church, was
the guest speaker at the April
meeting of the Waynesville Civic
League which was held on Wed
nesday evening at the home of the
president. Special guests of the
evening included the Girl Scouts.
Mr. Tatum addressed the group
on how the luture generations
would have to (any on and their
great responsibilities. He spoke of
God's working out his plan through
the rising youth of the country.
The Girl Scouts presented a
program of exceptional interest
featured by musical numbers, in
cluding a group of songs by Ida
Lou Gibson.
The meeting closed with th" as
sembly .singing of America. Dur

Are Tested Here
Seventy-I hrce pressure cookers
were tested by (). Phillips from
the Extension Service. State Col
lege, here at the courthouse on
Wednesday The checkup was
was for ow ners of cookers in. the
counties of Haywood. Jackson and
Sw ain.
The event was sponsored by the
Extension Service, the Kami Se
curity Administration, and the
county home and farm agents of
the three counties taking part.
Thirty-three cookers from Hay
wood were tested. 22 from Jack
son and lii from Swain county
during the day.
The hardware dealers were in
vited to attend the meeting and
learn from Mr. Phillips bow to
lest the cookers as this will be
the last year that the service will
be rendered by the Stale Exten
sion Service.
Assisting Mr. Phillips in the
testing were: Miss Mary Margaret
Smith. Miss Jewel Graham and
Howard Clapp Haywood home and
farm agents; M. L. Snipes, Jack
son county farm agent; Miss Mar
tha HariHtle, 1'SA. Jackson coun
ty; Miss Helen Higgon and Miss
Pansy Deal, home agents of Swain

corsage was of roses.
The bridegroom was attended
by Glenn Hipps of Waynesville.
Mr. and Mrs. Raby left imme
diately following the ceremony for
an unannounced trip.
