Rationing Office To Be Closed 1st and 9th The war price and rationing board will be closed the first to make out monthly reports, as is the custom of all rationing offices now. Again on the 9th the office will be closed as all members of the force are to attend a district meet ing for special insuction or ration ing regulations. Christian Workers Training School' To Be Held Here A training school for Christian workers of the Waynesville area will begin at the Methodist church Sunday evening at 8:V0 o'clock. Sessions will be held each evening at that hour through Thursday. Two courses are to be offered in this school. Mrs. E. H. Ould, of Roanoke, Va., will teach a course for young people entitled. "Young People and Christian Home-Making." Dr. L. E. Wiggins, from Anderson, S. C, will teach a course for adults on "Evangelism." Mrs. Ould is a graduate of State Teacher's College at Farmville, Va. She is a past-president of the Roanoke Woman's Club and at the present time chairman of American Citizenship for the Virginia Ftcl eratio nof Women's Clubs. She is an accredited instructor in the leadership training program of the Methodist church and an accredited counselor of the Los Angeles In stitute of Family Relations. As a lecturer on Personality Problems and on Problems of the Home Mrs. Ould is in great demand for civic and church meetings and for col lege platform appearances. She will speak at the Methodist church for the morning service Sunday and again on Friday evening after the Training School has closed. Dr. Wiggens is district superin tendent of the Anderson District of the South Carolina Conference of the Methodist church. As a suc cessful pastor he has made the program of Evangelism in the local church a main emphasis through the years. Since Evangelism is one of the major emphasis in the Crusade for Christ, a four-year pro gram of the Methodist church, it is appropriate that he should teach a course in this field. This school has been planned by the Board of Education of the Western North Carolina Confer ence and is sponsored by the Lake Junaluska, Dellwood. Jonathan Creek. Hazelwood and Wu nesv ille Methodist churches. For the local church, M. II. Bowles, Sunday School superintendent and chair man of the Board of Education, will be in charge. Crabtree FFA Stage Annual Father-Son Meet The annual Crabtree Father and Son banquet given by the F F A. chapter of the school, was held last Friday night, with 71 in at tendance. Members of the chapter were speakers, which included: Davis Rogers on Hereford cat tle; Billy K. Medford, Angus beef cattle; Charles Ferguson, dairy cattle, and W. F. Williams, direc tor of vocational agriculture, dis cussed "Agricultural Accomplish ments for the Year." Yates Bailey, of the FSA. gave imitations of birds and animals. The toastmaster was Wilbur Da vis. Music was furnished by the chapter's string band, composed of John Milner, Junior Sutton, Car rol Best and Kenneth Lowe. The home economics department, under the direction of Miss Agnes Kirkpatrick. served the meal. Mehaffey Brothers Serving In Armed Forces Mrs. Effie MehafTey, of Waynes ville, has two sons in the service: Pfc. Perry W. MehafTey and Sam uel B. Mehairey, U. S. Maritime Service. Pfc. MehafTey is serving in (he Hawaiian Islands, and he entered the service on November 22, 1942. at Camp Croft. Later he was sent to Camp Sibert. Ala., and then to Camp Gordon Johnston, Fla. He has been overseas since January 11 of this year. At the time he entered the service he was em ployed by Royle and Pilkington. Inc. His wife and son are resid ing with her parents in Walland. Tenn. Samuel B. MehafTey who entered the service in January, 1945, is taking training at Norfolk. He was employed at the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Com pany at the time he entered the service. J Oatmeal Waffles 2 c. evaporated or rich fresh milk 2 tbsps. vinegar 2 c. quick cook ing oatmeal 2 eggs, separated 6 tbsps. meltot fat , He. sifted il flour 0 M tsp. soda I 2Vx tsps. bak ing powder i tsp. salt Mix milk with vinegar, stir In oatmeal and let stand 2 hours, or soak overnight in a cold place. Add egg yolks, beat well; add melted fat, and stir in flour that has been sifted with soda, baking powder and salt Fold in stiffly beaten whites of eggs, and bake in hot waffle iron. BRADLEY, so nof Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Brad ley, of the Maggie section of the county, is serving with the armed forces in France. He entered the service on August 18, 1941, and was inducted at Camp Croft. From there he was sent to the Panama Canal where he served for three months. After returning to tiie States he was stationed at Camp Carson, Colo., and later at Camp Roberts, Calif. At the time he was ordered overseas he was at Fort Benning, Ga. Prior to entering the service he was employed by the State Highway Commission. DEATH James A. Parks Funeral services were conducted at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Troy Leatherwood, Jonathan Creek, on Friday afternoon, April l.'i. for James A. Parks, 89. retired Hay wood county farmer, who died on Thursday, the 12th. Rev. B. II. Dennis, pastor of the Shady Grove Methodist church, of ficiated. Burial was in the family cemetery nearby. Mr. Parks was a native of Mecklenburg county, the son of the late James and Louisa Parks, and had been residing here for the greater part of his life. He made his home for many years with his great niece, Mrs. Leather wood. Surviving are one niece. Mrs. J. C. Welch one nephew, James li. Boyd; three great nieces and four great nephews.
