H. I). Browning. Jr.. who was kicked out of his position as superinten dent of schools in Columbus Coun ty, lias been made superintendent of the Wilson Counts schools. This is one of the best school jobs in the State. Browning, who never noes' out of his way to vet amhndv to like him, is a good school man. In cidentally, he at one tune taught Freddie C'niuloid .il Wawiesville. Superintendent liiuumiiK has never said just what he taught him whether it was hov. to chew tobacco, or the v. a to make tllo.se earth-shaking tackles, or a little something about squaring the , hypotenuse Anyway, lie's aluavs bragging a little about having taught Craw ford, i They never know where they will be from one year to the next. i BI.AMK This spring it seem? that toe public, which elected the county representatives to the Leg islature, cant agree with the county boards of education, who were named by the representative, or can't agree with the local school committees, wh owere named by the county boards of education. In other words, the public names the representative, and he names ihas final say-soi the county board of education, and this board names the local committee and yet. even though the local committee is not far delivered fnom the actual voice of the people, the people and the committee have a hard time get ting together 1 l s It j x 1 s is lieing ttrit uud 211 rather liglits in pio- S t a t e. the MIXUI'S As th ten, there are an good-sized school gress throughout Chances are you knmv of at least one yourself. It's no wonder men land women too' are leaving school work every year. FOR . TAX8 CALL SCOTT REEVES Phone 90 Pure Oil Station HF.LATIVKS In fairness to the principal and to the other teachers, no school committeeman should permit any relative to be a mem ber of the 'faculty of any selmol coming under his jurisdiction These relatives are trouble-makers always whether they mean to be or not and frequently they hap pen to be the type who just like trouble and excitement. Being blood kin to the school committee man, they have more influence with hiui than has the principal. They see the committeeman more frequently than the principal has time to. and they often live with the committeeman. Of course, the above is an ex aggeration, hut it is basically true in many and many a community of North Carolina. lur rile I'FC. JA1IKS !
