During the past 12 months Hay wood county has increased its average payment monthly to needy aged persons rom $10.83 to $11.50. The state-wide average has gone up from $10.67 to $12 .50. accord ing to Mrs. Queen. In this county there were 497 persons receiving old age' assist ance last June as compared with 504 this month. Haywood county has increased its monthly average grant to fam ilies of dependent children from $!') 47 to $16.40 for the 90 fam ilies now receiving aid. A year ago there? were 85 families receiv- in gthis aid. The state average payment to dependent children is $24 76 for the month of June. 1945 A year ago it was $18.29. A year ago there were 91 prevail- homes in North Carolina in which children could be boarded temporarily while arrangements were being made for their per manent care. Now there are 121 homes although a good number of them are in some of the more populous counties. Haywood coun ty has two licensed boarding homes and every effort is being made to provide at least one more (luring the coming year, according to Mrs. Queen.
