William Arrington Florida Man Ends Awarded 3rd Battle Star Lecture Series At Lake Tonight Staff Sergeant Wi.'liani G Ar rington, of Waynesville, has re cently been awarded his third bat tle star, according to information received from European headquar ters of hi unit. Sgt. Arlington has participated in tne campaigns in Normandy, Northern France and Germany. He has previously been awarded the Bronze Star and Combat In fantryman badge. He is attached to Company H, 119th Infantry, 30th Division. on March 12, 1942, and was in ducted at Fort Bragg and from there sent to Camp Polk, La. Be fore being sent overseas he was further trained at Camp Coxcomb. Calif., and Fort Benning, Ga., leav ing from Camp Schanks. N. Y. He served one year to '.he day in the European theatre, being in combat in France, Belgium, Hol land and Germany. He was taken prisoner on October 29, 1944. in Holland and sent to a German concentration camp. He lost 28 pounds during the months he spent in prison, but in considering all things he feels that he has been mighty lucky. Being a private he wa forced to work, which he thinks saved his reason, for he said if he had had nothing to do he feels he would have gone crazy. While his wife and parents heard from him he did not receive any mail from his family during the entire period of his imprisonment. At the time he entered the ser vice he was engaged in farming in this county. He is entitled to wear the European theatre ribbon, Good Conduct medal, and three combat stars for major campaigns. ft if J . Frank Caldwell, son of Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Caldwell, of Jonathan Creek, will report this week to Beattey General Hos pital, after spending a thirty-day furlough here with his family. Sgt. Caldwell is receiving treatment for wounds suffered on December 19. 1944, in Belgium. He returned to the States in April after serving ten months in the European thea tre. Sgt. Caldwell entered the service in March. 1942, and was inducted at Fort Bragg and from there sent 1 10 uinp tooK, L-aiu., ana men 10 desert maneuvers in California and later to Fort Benning, Ga. He was sent overseas from Camp Schanks, N. Y. He served in France, Belgium, Holland and Ger many.
