Cordelia Browning Green. 81.
widow of Allen Green, who died
at 3:45 p. m. Monday. Burial was
in the Buchanan cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers weie
Charlie, Clyde and Noah Putnam,
all grandsons, Leonard Ballar,
Funslow Muse, and Glenn Rogers.
Mrs. Green is survived by one
son. Western Green, of Waynes
ville, R.F.D. No. 1; one daughter.
Mrs. Maggie Putnam, of Waynes
ville. R.F.D. No. 1; one brother,
Early Browning, of llazelwood, and
one sister, Mrs. Etta Crawford, of
Wayjiesville, R.F.D. No. 1; nine
grandchildren and eight great
grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on
Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock at
the home of Mrs. J. M. Palmer
for Fred L. Nichols, 62, well
known farmer who died at his
home on Plott Creek Road, after
a long illness. Rev. Jarvis Under
wood officiated. Burial was in
Green Hill cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers were
Vaughn Plott, Fred Plott, Law
rence Winchester, George Sorrells.
Cruise Moody and Fred Mann.
Mr. Nichols was a native of
Haywood county, and is surviveu
by his widow, Mrs. Nola Milner
Nichols; four sisters, Mrs. J. M.
Palmer, and Mrs. C. C. Cline, of
Waynesville. Mrs. Walter Hyatt,
of Ela. and Mrs. Earl Little, of
Taylorsville; three brothers, Wil
liam and Clayton Nichols, of Way
nesville, and Frank Nichols, of
West Asheville.

Last rites were held at the
Hiram Rogers Baptist church in
Fines Creek section of the county
at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon for
John J Beasley, 68, farmer of
the Panther Creek community,
who died at his home at 10 a. rn.
Sunday.
Rev. Forrest Ferguson officiated.
Burial was in the church ceme
tery. Surviving are his widow, Mrs.
Minnie Rector Beasley; five sons,
Lee. Dug, Graham and Carl, all
of Clyde, R.F.D No. 1, and Pfc.
Coinan Beasley, who is now in
Germany, two daughters, Mrs.
Elmer Rathbone, and Miss Myrtle
Beasley, both of Clyde, R.F.D. No.
I; two brothers, Nath and Shufor
Beasley. both of Clyde, R.F.D. No.
I; two sisters, Mrs. Dovle Green,

The recent extension of" OPA for another year was in respons
to public demand for continued protection against inflationary dangers.
Part of the recent gas increases given A and B motorists may
have to be recalled because of a daily over-consumption of 3,318,000
gallons of gasoline.
Tire dealers in this district were cautioned this week about ac
ceptance of new tire certificates presumably issued by War Price
and Rationing Boards in other states.
Many tire dealers have been victimized by crooks who have ten
dered stolen or counterfeit tire certificates, drawn on distant boards.
Permission Lo slaughter 10 per cent more cattle, sheep and lamb?
during accounting periods beginning on or after July 1 was granted
non-fedelally inspected commercial slaughterers to attain a better
balance in meat distribution.
Our hoiuefront outlook for fuel oil this winter is no more prom
ising than before. In fact, our shortage may be even more acute
than during last winter.
Kenneth Rogers Spends
Leave At Home
Kenneth Rogers, fireman .first
class, son of Mr. and Mrs. Cauley
Rogers, of Clyde, R.F.D. No. i,
has returned to California after
spending a ten-day leave here.
Fireman Rogers entered the ser
vice in May, 1944, and took his
boot training at Camp Peary, Va.,
after which he received additional
training at Gulfport, Miss., Coron-
ado, Calif., and is now stationed
at Oceanside, Calif , where he has
taken amphibious landing craft
training.
He is a graduate of the Fines
Creek high school and before en
tering the service was employed by
the Newport News Shipbuilding
and Dry Dock Company.

William K. Kenney, 28, water-
tender, third class, is now serving
aboard a destroyer escort of the
Atlantic fleet. He is the son of
Mrs. Delia M. Kenney, of Balsam

Church and Cemetery
Saturday, July 14th, has been
set aside as Clean-Up Day at the
Lower Crabtree Baptist church
yard and cemetery and all persons
who have friends and relatives are

Pfc. Rowe Ledford Is
Home From 12 Months
Of Service In Europe
Pfc. Rowe Ledford, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Sam Ledford. of White
Oak, returned to his home July
3rd after spending 12 months
overseas in the European theatre
of operations.
Pfe. Ledford first served as a
truck driver carrying supplies
from Normandy in France to the
front lines. Later he was trans
ferred to the Third Army He
was wounded during the big drive
for the Belgium Bulge. He was a
patient in an English hospital 1111
'ii he recovered.
During this time he was award
ed the Purple Heart and three
Silver Stars for gallantry during
battle.

Bragg after his 30-day furlough

with the 86th Fighter Group of
the 9th Air Force, has been pro
moted to staff sergeant, according
to information received from head
quarters in Germany.
The K6th. known as "Lee's Lieu
tenants ". is a veteran Thunderbolt
group of the 9tli Air Force. It is
commanded by Col: T. George Lee,
of Norwood. Mass., the European
theatre operations record holder
of 2'M combat missions.
Bel'oi e entering the Air Force,
Sergeant Davidson was an auto
mobile mechanic. His wife, Mrs.
Kmma Lee Davidson, resides in
Wavliesville.
