WILLIAM W STRINGFIELU. son of Dr. and Mrs. Sam Stringfield. who is now stationed at Sheppard Field, Wit chita Falls. Tex., has been award ed the Distinguished Flying Cross. The citation which accompanied the cross was in part as follows: "For extraordinary achievement while participating in serial flight against the enemy in the North African and Mediterranean thea ters of operation Throughout many long and hazardous combat missions against vital strategic targets deep in enemy occupied territory though confronted by heavy enemy opposition from highly aggressive enemy fighter and intense and accurate anti-aircraft fire, Sgt. Stringfield consis tently displayed outstanding cour age, aggressiveness and intense de votion to duly throughout all en gagements. "With their aircraft frcipicutly severely damaged by heavy enemy fire, these men have courageously remained at their stations, battling their way through to their targets to aid materially in the ulter des truction of vitally important enemy installations and supplies. Josepn Jackson Atkins was named leader of the group. There were three men wljo had been transferred from other boards as follows: Hardy Lee Sbeltou, from Salem, N.
