Killed In Wreck Near
Winston-Salem Wed
nesday Night.
Funeral services were hold in
Morgai ton Saturday afternoon for
George Brown, Jr., civil engineer
of the highway department, who
has been stationed here for about
a year. Mr. Hrown died a few
hours after his ear left the highway
near Winston-Salem, as he was
I'nroute to see his father near Wal
nut Cove
Mr. Brown left here Wednesday
morning, and the accident took
place about ten that night. lie
was on his vacation for the re
mainder of the week. He had just
received a promotion I mm the
highway department.
He is survived by his widow.

ganton. his father, stepmother, ai
brother and I wo half sisters.

Scale For Coming
Year Announced
Due to the appropriation of the
$120 annual bonus for teachers by
the last General Assembly in
North Carolina. $2.8(10,000 will be
added to the salary budget of the
public schoot teachers in the state,
making the minimum state salary
schedule the highest in the history
of the state.
This does not include the sup
plements whic h many of the towns
and districts in the state pay their
teachers over and above the state
salary schedule.
The Haywood county teachers
will get by this bonus, which is j
not guaranteed for another year.
$K1.30 more each month on their
salary.
