Immediately following the ceiv-
mony an informal reception was
held which was attended b ap
proximately 50 guests. Mrs Mod
ford Leatherwood. Mrs. Johnnv
Ferguson and Miss Zennie I'eyton
were in charge of (he dining room.
The dining table was covered with I
hand-made lace cloth and the !
three-tiered wedding cake, which
was placed on a cut-p lass plate that
the bridegroom brought from the
Philippines on his recent return
and topped with a miniature bride
and groom, occupied the central
space on the table. Cut-glass can
delabra were used on each end of
the table and the dining room was
decorated throughout with vases
of white munis and fern. Miss Fan
nie Pearl Campbell was in charge !
of the gift room.
The bride, who is the daughter
of Mrs. D. Crockett Campbell and
the late Mr. Campbell, of Maggie,
is a graduate of Western Carolina
Teachers College and has held a
position as teacher in the county
school system for a number of
years. She is a granddaughter of
the late Wilburn A. Campbell and
Jane Plott Campbell, pioneer set
tlers of this section.
The groom is the son of the late
Mr. and Mrs. Charles R. Matthews
of Brockton, Mass.. and was grad
uated from the Montello High
School. He has served in the U. S.
army for the past 24 years having
been stationed in Panama, Trini
dad, British West Indies. Porto
Rico, Dutch New Guinea and the
Philippines. He is now on 90 day
furlough after which he will report
to Ft. Bragg for re-assignment and
he will then be joined by Mrs Mat
thews at his new post of duty.
Out-of-town guests included: Mr.
and Mrs. Van McKaughan of Ashe- j
ville, Mrs. T. L. Ward of Kdenton.
