THE WAYNESVILLE MOUNTAINEER
The UNION ifceps Ow Growin
jo.
Ever noticed a funny thing about people . . . and cities . . . and nations . . . and
stores? Those that don't grow forward and larger always grow backward and smaller!
i:. s. s I. A c K
knew this when
he opened The I'nioii in
Waynesville live years ago
pledging to biild a greater
store that would ever know
completion And so month
by month, year by year, The
Union has grown forward and
larger. As (he original store be
came crowded with customers and
and mere hand is e, larger quarters
were acquired. First, we moved to our
present location front the Western I'nioii
block. We utilized only half of our available
floor space at the time, and gradually expanded
to the point where every square foot was in use.
And then there were rumors of yet more and more
expansions . . . Yes, t hose rumors became a reality,
and workmen are now put ting the finishing touches on
our beautiful specialty shops, downstairs. We have added
numerous new departments, and about these, you will hear
more later. Nor have we grown in physical space only. From
a meagre beginning vc have added many times the personnel of
five years ago, and the volume of the store has increased in propor
tion. We look forward confidently and with good reason to even better
years ahead. But the proudest item in our annals of growth is not our
increased floor space . . . nor our ever increasing number of employees . . .
even the zooming volume. It is the impressive number of famous names
crowding the racks, shelves and co unlers of our store ... names great in
prestige and customer acceptance throughout America . . . names that have made
us, literally, the fastest growing store in Western North Carolina. You can always
buy with utmost confidence at The Union and soon we will have in our new depart
ments and specialty shops, items of famous names that heretofore have been available
only in cities with hundreds of thousands of people. Yes, The Union Keeps on Growing.
On this Thanksgiving Day, let us bow our heads in thanks for the many blessings we as
