Corporal Hunter, who attended (he local high school served for ten months in New Guinea and was returned to the States and sent to Oliver General Hospital at Au custa, Ga and then to Asheville. He is now stationed at Remount Va. Sgt. Fields, a native nf RantnrA was married in September, 1940, to Miss Alma Hunter, sister of Cpl. Hunter. He served with General Patton's army in Germany and re ceived his discharge from Fort Bragg last month. Frances Frazier, sophomore, pre sented Father Roche with a purse of $150, representing donations from St. John's school and church. Cpl. Guy G. West Re-enlists in Service Corporal Rav C, Wt cnn e Mr, and Mrs. J. D. West, of the Fines Creek section of the county, has reported to his post of duty u ureensboro after spending a 54 day furlough with his parents. Cpl. West entered the service on June 17, 1944, and was inducted at Fort Bragg. He took his basic training at Shepard Field and was later sent to Tyndall Field, after which he received advanced train ing at Boise, Idaho. Muse, of the Ratoliff Cove section, is now serving with the army of occupation in Germany Prior to entering the service Pvt. Muse was at Camp Gordon, Ga where he took his basic training. He has been in the army since May 24 1945. Chicken Strains Only a small number of the 160 varieties of chickens are used on specialized commercial poultry farms. Lewis A. Kirkpatrick Discharged From Navy Lewis A. Kirkpatrick, seaman first class, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Kirkpatrick. of Fines Creek, has been discharged from the U.-S. navy. .!e entered the service on October 2G. 1943 and was inducted at Camp Croft. From Croft he was sent to Bain bridge, Md., where he took his boot training and was later sent to a gunnery school at Norfolk. From the latter he was sent to Camp Shelton, Va., where he was as signed to sea duty. He served on board the SS Culfway and the SS Brandy Station, merchant marine ships. His duties on these ships took him practically all over the world. I He is entitled to wear the Amer- j ican Theater ribbon. European 1 theater and Tacific Theater rib bons, the Philippine Liberation medal and the Victory medal. At the time he entered the navy as a volunteer he was a student in high schoal, and plans to return to school. Seaman Kirkpatrick had four brothers in the service; two who have received their discharges, Private First Class Paul, who was on duty in Europe, and Kd, chief torpedoman, U. S. navy.
