Haywood's quota was $1 1.500, and a total of $1 1 ,543.118 was sent to the state treasurer. A. I1. Ledbet ter was county chairman of the drive. This district, composed of Chero kee, Clay, Graham, Jackson, Macon and Swain, besides Haywood, led the entire state in percentage of quotas raised. Five of the seven counties in the district made 100 per cent or better, while the other two went slightly over 83 per cent J. E. S. Thorpe was district chairman, and a total of $31.95900 was raised in the district, with Haywood contributing more than a third of the total. The adjustable pricing order ap plies only to Chrysler, Ford and Hudson, the spokesman explained, because these are the only com panies which have applied for in creases thus far. They are asking higher prices to olTset wage in creases granted by each of the manufacturers. The new order is applicable only to cars produced by the three com panies beginning March 11.
