Mr. Sharp is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dave Sharp, of Canton, Route 2. Mr. and Mrs. Sharp are making their home in Waynesville. Haywood Man Is Wedded to Maine Girl In Columbia in April Mr. and Mrs. Michael Gorman of Sanford, Maine, have announced the marriage of their daughter. Miss Gladys R. Gorman, to Pri vate First Class James R. Wright, son of Mr. and Mrs. James A. Wright of Waynesville. The ceremony took place on Tuesday, April 23rd, in Columbia, S. C. The couple were attended by Private First Class and Mrs. Anthony Tomes, of Ellwood City, Pa. The bride will reside with her parents until her husband is dis charged from the army. Mrs. Charles E. Grace has re turned to her home in Hazelwood after spending a few months in Philadelphia. The dinner was served in the coffee shop in the hotel and the long tables at which the guests and members were seated were ar ranged in bowls of spring flowers. One of the main features of entertainment was a musical pro gram given by a group of students from the Springdale school under the direction of Sol Cohen, of New York, who is head of the depart ment of music at the school. The program also featured readings by Victor Jacoby, principal of the school. A number of prizes were award ed the guests of the evening, which included the wives and friends of the Lions. Those in charge of the affair were Francis Massie, Charles D. Ketncr, Cahrlie Woodard, Jack Ed wards and Ralph Fore. Jack Fel met is president of the club. Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Hines and the former's mother have arrived from Orlando, Fla., and will spend the summer at their home here. Leading Engineers Seek Better World PITTSBURGH Some of the world's leading natural scientists and engineers, men iwhose names and achievements dominated the headlines of World War II, will meet for the first time since the fighting began, and plan for mak ing the world a better place in which to live. They will meet here May 16-18 at the George Westinghouse Cen tennial Forum, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the birth of George Washington. "The Importance of this gather ing cannot be overemphasized," said M. W. Smith, vice president of Westinghouse and chairman of the Westinghouse Educational Foundation which arranged the Forum. "It will enable men promi nent in their own fields to gain an insight into the problems of others, to correlate present knowl edge and to lay the foundation for future research that may contrib ute materially to the advancement of civilization." Included are leaders in the de velopment of the atomic bomb, in medical and biological fields, trans portation, education and electric power keystone of the modern in dustrial world. Hobbs Ned Head Of Coca-Cola Company WILMINGTON, Del. William J. Hobbs, president of the Coca-Cola Export Corp., was elected president of the Coca-Cola Company at the annual meeting of stockholders. Mr. Hobbs succeeds Robert W. Woodruff, acting president, who continues as chairman of the ex ecutive committee. A. A. Acklin, president of the company from 1939 to 1945 when he was granted a leave of absence, was elected chairman of the ad visory committee, replacing Wil liam C. Bradley. Richard C. Fow ler was named a vice president. The company reported net earn ings for the first quarter appli cable to common stock were $3, 320,722 compared with $3,443,760 during the same period last year. He is a graduate of the Waynesville Township high school. They will make their home in Waynesville. Ruth Richardson Wedded To Lemuel Sheppard Announcement has been made of the marriage of Miss Ruth Rich ardson of Waynesville, to Lemuel Sheppard w hich took place on Mon day, May 6. at Clayton, Ga. The bride holds a position with the American Enka Corporation and Mr. Sheppard is a veteran of World War II. having been dis charged last fall from the armed forces. The couple will make their home in the Camp Branch section near Waynesville. Canton Girl Featured Over Music Broadcast Miss Leola Payne, mezzo soprano, of Canton, was featured on a na tional music week program broad east from WISE last Wednesday. She also gave a musical program at the Allen Home school Wednes day at 11 o'clock. Mr. and Mrs. B. R. Hundley re cently spent a week in Miami and other points of interest in Florida. Miss Mary Colvard, student at Mars Hill College, spent the week end here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Colvard. Mr. and Mrs. John Rlalock spent the week-end in Fayettcvillc with their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Kanos.
