Fulton Mr. and Mrs. Silas Greene have announced the engagement of their daughter, Miss Ruth Silas Greene, lo William Sage Fulton, Jr., the wedding to be solemnized on June 8th, at the First Buptist church here at 5 o'clock Saturday after noon. "I The bride-elect is a graduate of the Kir.es Creek high school and the Woman s College of the Uni versity of North Carolina. For the past two years she has taugh in tlu. cily schools of King's Mountain. The bridegroum-eiect the son of William Sage Fulton, of Kings Mountain and is a ; .aduate of Krskine College, S. C. He was graduated from colu'fe at the time he entered the service. Ho served for three and one-half years in the armed force:,, having been dis charged in October, 1945. He serv ed with the 9th Air Force in the European theater. At present Mr. Fulton holds a position in a manufacturing plant in King's Mountain, where he is asseociated with his father in busi ness. The couple plan to make their home in King's Mountain. Two Haywood Girls Graduated Yesterday From Woman's College Among the 44!! students who were graduated from the Woman's College of the University of North Carolina yesterday were two Hay wood girls. Miss Irene Graham and Miss Dortha I.ou Green, both of Clyde. Miss Irene Graham received an A B. degree with a major in socio logy, and Miss Green received an A. B. degree with a major in English. Miss Graham was a member of the home economics club. Interna tional Relations club. Sociology Hub. Adelphian society and the Y W. C. A. Mm Green, who transferred from Mars Hill, was a member of the Cornelian Society and the Y. W. C A. Mr. and Mrs. R. I.. Coin have as their guests Mr. and Mrs. John Crouch and three children of Liver more. Ky. Mrs. Crouch is a sister of Mr. Coin. Spears, son of Mr. and Mrs A. R. Spears of Canton, was solemnized in a double ring cere mony at high noon at the First iiaptist church of Murphy. The Rev. J. Alton Morris was the officiant. Nuptial music was furnished by Mrs. J. W. Davidson, organist. Miss Mary Lee Roberts, sister of the bride, sang "The Lord's Prayer" at the conclusion of the service. The bride was attired in a white eyelet embroidered dress with v iiite accessories. She carried a white prayer book covered with gardenians and showered with white sweet peas. Her only jew elry was a diamond-studded watch, a gift of the bridegroom. Miss Barbara Shackford of Chat tanooga, maid of honor, wore a Cai'o! n original dress of dark blue with black accessories. Her flow ers were white carnations. Mrs. Kenneth C. Caldwell, ma tron of honor, wore white with black accessories and a white carna tion corsage. Robert Williams. Canton, served as best man to the bridegroom. Mrs. Roberts, mother of the bride, wore a light blue dress with white accessories and a corsage of pink roses. Mrs. Spears, mother of the bridegroom, wore a white dress with white accessories and a corsage of pink roses. Following the ceremony a lun cheon sas held at Hotel Regal for members oi the bridal party. A reception was held for approxi mately 00 guests after the luncheon a the parlor of the hotel. For traveling the bride wor a light gray suit with black acces sories and gardenia corsage. After a wedding trip to Asheville and Carolina Beach, the young couple will be at home in Waynesville. where Mr. Spears will he employed by The Waynesville Mountaineer, having assumed his duties with the paper yesterday. Mrs. Spears was educated in the schools of Murphy. Mr." Spears is a graduate of Mars Hill college and Louisiana State University with a B. A. in Journalism. He was re cently discharged from the armed forces with the rank of captain after five years service 34 months of this time being spent in the European Theatre of War. Mr. and Mrs. Clapp In Atlantic City Mr. and Mrs. H. R. Clapp left Saturday afternoon for Atlantic City, where they will attend the International Rotary convention, which will be in session all this week. Mr. Clapp is president-elect of the Waynesville club and will as sume office on July first, succeed ing W. Roy Francis. Canton's First War Bride To Arrive Soon Canton's first war bride, Mrs Ralph Childrers, is scheduled to arrive soon, according to informa tion received from the New York Chapter of the American Red Cross by the local Canton chapter. Mrs. Childers, the former Miss Ethel Sainsbury of London, Eng land, is scheduled to arrive aboard the USS Henry Gibson. Mr. Chil ders, who served for more than two years on overseas duty left immediately after the message came for Washington, D. C. He will return to Canton with his bride and they will make their home with his parents for the present. Jane Iscnhour Elected Most Popular Girl On State University Campus Miss Jane Jsenhour. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Isenhour of Char lotte, who is a member of the senior class at the North Carolina University, was recently chosen as the most popular girl on the college campus. Miss Isenhour has spent much lime in Waynesville as the guest of her aunts, Mrs. It. L. Coin and Mrs. G. C. I'loll. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mct'iacken and her mother was the former Miss Willie Edna McCraeken. Big Navy Advocates Scowl At Ship Cuts WASHINGTON Big Navy advo cates in the House scowled at an Appropriations Committee decision In trim 114 fighting ship from the proposed postwar fleet. They pointed to Navy figures showing that the $4,630,569,000 recommended by the Committee would approve for the operation of 9(i.r) combatant vessels compared with the 1,079 which the House voted unanimously late last year as its suggestion. The Navy's original request for $fi.325,00O,OO0, which the Budget Bureau trimmed to $4,224,000,000, was designed to provide and back up the 1,079 figure. Representative Carl Vinson (D) of Georgia, Chairman of the Naval Affairs Committee and Represen tative Sterling Cole of New York, top Republican member, told re porters they had not decided what to do about the Appropriations Committee action. There were indications that either Mr. Vinson who wrote last year's postwar fleet bjll or other Naval Affairs Committee members would seek to restore at least part of the Navy's original request when the House starts debate tomorrow. To Be Continued ) MSgt. Walter D. Brown Reports To Ft. Bragg Master Sgt. Walter I). Brown, who has spent a 90-day furlough with his family, has reported to Fort Bragg where he will be sta tioned. Sgt. Brown who has served for 28 years in the regular army has re-enlisted in the service for another two years. Prior to his furlough here Sgt. However, the British short story writer thought she said yes, so he spread the news. How ever, it's still "maybe" according to Betty, who met the Londoner in the U. S. eight years ago and has been corresponding. (International) Salvation Army s Holding Bible Schools The Mountain Division of the Salvation Army is conducting a series of four Vacation Bible schools in the area served by the Army under the supervision of Major Cecil Brown, it was learned this week from the workers at the Citadel, headquarters of the Army. Two schools have been complet ed and were attended b every child in the vicinity. One was con ducted at Little Creek church with Captain Lillian Blackburn in charge and attended by sixteen children, all of whom had perfect attendance records. The second school was held at Cold Springs church with Capt. Bobby Douglas in charge and lrom 25 to 30 children were enrolled. In the two schools there were nine children converted and one rededi cated her life. Two similar schools will be con ducted at the Shellon Laurel With Miss Zeta Flemming in charge, as sisted by Miss Mildred Kirby and it the Maple Springs church. Dales of both schools will be announced later. Swain Cherokee and Macon, will be held in Sylva .on Friday, according to an announcement by Miss Mary Margaret Smith, county home agent. Plans now are for around 50 members of the clubs in the county lo attend the meeting.
