FRIDAY PAGE EIGHT (Second Section); j"JSAVE WITH SAFETY AT SMITH'S THE WAYNESYILLE MOUNTAINEER " mm Mary Lee Alley R. N. Promoted At Duke Hospital Miss Mary Lee Alley, daughter of Mrs. Margaret Hall Alley and granddaughter of Judge and Mrs. F. E. Alley, has been promoted to a medical supervisor at Duke Hos pital, where she is the youngest member of the nursing staff. Miss Alley graduated this spring in a class of 210 students from the Duke Hospital School of Nursing and successfully passed the State Board of Examiners of Nurses in Raleigh in April. Following her graduation from the Nursing school she remained at Duke Hospital and became a member of the nursing staff. She is also a student at Duke University, where she is working for her B.S. degree. Prior to entering the school of nursing she had been a student at Montreat Junior college and the N. C. Wom an's college. Miss Alley spent the past week here as the guest of her aunt, Miss Edna Hayes and her grandparents. Capital Letters (Continued from page 2) home our good Samaritan govern ment is buying large quantities of these potatoes., and w hat is it doing with them? Selling them to starch and whiskey manufacturers. GRAY Brandon Hodges, former candidate for president pro tern of the State Senate, has been defeated for the Senate . . . and that brings on more talk as to who will get this position. The place will likely go to Lee Weathers of Shelby, Joe Blythe of Charlotte, Erskine Smith of Albemarle, or Gordon Gray of Winston-Salem. It moves west this time. Those pushing Gray are most active. Since he is a veteran of World War II, he will stage an in teresting contest for president pro tern. If he is successful, you will see him a candidate for I.t. Gov. in 1948 . . . and then bigger things ... A victory for Thurmond Chat ham in the Fifth would be a big boost for Gray, who has gone down the line for him . . . LANG AND PRINCE The talk in Raleigh is that C. D. Deane, new Eighth District Congressman, will name John Lang as private secre tary and that Ben Prince will be come Monroe Reddens man in Washington. Both these men men tioned as helpers are veterans. There is a good chance that Lang will get his place . . . and little chance that Prince will go to Wash ington . . . even if offered the place . . . PARTING As hinted rather strongly in this corner several months ago, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Reynolds of Winston-Salem have come to the parting of the ways. In her complaint, Mrs. Reynolds said that Dick customarily spent $100,000 annually on his family was worth $20,000,000 and has spent $100,000 on his girl friend in the past year.
