riage to Walter Sage Fulton, Jr.,
will take place Saturday evening
at the First Bcptist church was

Waynesville Country Club on

Mrs. Phillips is the former Miss
Carroll Louise Bell. Mr. Phillips,
who served with distinction in the
AAF is a veteran of World War II,
having been on overseas duty in
the Kuropean theater. He is now
completing lus college work at
North Carolina State College, and
the visit here was made during his
vacation.

Spends Short Furlough
TSgt. Charles Jackson Sheehan,
son nf Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Shee
han of Wa ncsville, recently spent
four days here. On May 23 he was
transferred from Fort Monmouth,
N. J., to Fort McPherson, Ga. He
re-enlisted for one year when at
Naples, Italy, last October, and at
prerent is engaged in recruiting
duties for the Signal Corps.

Give Contract
Party Thursday
Mrs. R. R. Campbell was hostess
of a contract party at her home
in Thomas Park yesterday after
noon as a courtesy to her sisters,
Mrs. Odin G. Buell, of Buellton,
Calif., and Mrs. J. Frank Hodges,
of Lenoir City, Tenn., who are her
guests for the coming two weeks.
The residence was arranged in
bowls of spring flowers in shades
of gold and purple. Prizes were
awarded the winners of the high
and low scores.

Visits Mother Here
C. P. O. H. T.' Brockett, A. C.
M. M., has been visiting his moth
er, Mrs. G. T. Brockett, at the
Waynesville Country Club during
the past week. He was to leave
Thursday for his station at the
Alameda, Calif. Air Station, and
will stop at the Oakland Naval hos
pital for a physical check-up be
fore returning to duty.
C. P. O. Brockett now has six
years service, four years of which
were spent in the South Pacific
where he was flight engineer and
plane captain for patrolling and
combat missions throughout that
theater. He and his mother both
are natives of North Carolina.

Call For Workers
WASHINGTON Want to get

islands of the Pacific are calling
via a Navy want-ad, that is.
Men and women are "urgently
needed'' for a number of civilian
jobs in the Marianas. Alaska re
quires men only.
The Navy said clerks, laborers,
artisans, mechanics, and profes
sional workers are needed for re
building cities and enlarging bases
all through the Marianas antl fnr
building and maintaining Alaskan
oases.

The Navy is also looking for
lawyers, surveyors and clerks for
the land and claim commission in

the American Bankers Association
supporting the proposed $3,750,

presented last week to the House

"We are of the opinion,'' tho reso

The resolution was presented by

president, declared. "To strengthen

Rev. and Mrs. Mangum
To Spend June Here
Rev. and Mrs. Tom Mangum, of
Selnia, Ala., arrived yesterday to
spend the month of June with Mrs.
Bonner Ray. Rev. Mr. Mangum
was pastor of the First Methodist
church here for more than four
years and he and Mrs. Mangum
have many friends in this section.
Mrs. L. E. Henshaw left for
Miami Sunday to attend (he wed
ding of her brother, Capt. Nels
Parson, who has been stationed in
Germany. On her way back to
Waynesville, Mrs. Henshaw will
stop in Charleston to attend the
wedding of her nephew, Lt. James
Paul.
Miss Catherine Jones and sister,
Miss Thelnia Jones, are spending
this week at Virginia Beach.

Mrs. Odin G. Buell, of Buellton,
Calif., has arrived to spend two
weeks here with her mother, Mrs.
James R. Thomas and her sister,
Mrs. R. R. Campbell. Mrs. Buell
made the trip by plane to Knox
ville and en route to Waynesville
visited her sister, Mrs. J. Frank
Hodges in Lenoir City, Tenn. Mrs.
Odin is the former Miss Josephine
Thomas, of Waynesville, and has
resided in California since her mar-riag.-.
She was accompanied here
by her sister, Mrs. Hodges, who
will also be the guest of her mother
and sister for a fortnight.
Tom Ray, son of Mrs. Bonner
Ray, is spending this week in
Greensboro as the guest of Parker
Gay, son of Dr. and Mrs. S. P. Gay.
