C. -Dislrilmted Ry Farmers Federation New York Girl Is Wedded To Hugh Shelton, Jr. Announcement has been made of the marriage of Miss Roberta Jose of Brooklyn, N. Y. and Niles, Ohio, daughter of Mrs. Louis Rosenberg, of Brooklyn, to Oliver Hugh Shel ton, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Hugh Shelton, of Waynesville. The ceremony took place at the Coral Gables Methodist church, Coral Gables, Fla., on Friday, May 17th, with the pastor, the Rev. J. H. Daniels, pronouncing the vows. Mrs. Shelton is an honor gradu ate of the Girls Commercial high school of Brooklyn, and has held several positions in New York City since her graduation. Mr. Shelton w'as educated in the Waynesville Township high school and Western Carolina Teachers college. He has returned to his position as instrument mechanic of the Pan-American World Airways, in Miami, Fla., after serving for some time in the armed forces., Mr. Shelton was attached to the 9th Air Force and was in the Euro pean theater for more than twenty months. The couple plan to make their home in Miami Beach, Fla., for the present. Legion and Auxiliary Install Odicers At Meet Tonight The Waynesville post of the American Legion and Auxiliary will hold their regular meeting tonight at 8 o'clock in the Ameri can Legion hall, it was learned from J. C. Patrick, retiring com mander of the post. The newly elected odicers will be installed and all members are urged to be present. Bryson, of Chicago, formerly of Waynesville, whose engagement to Bernard Richard Roland, jr., of Chicago Heights, 111., has been announced by her mother. The marriage is scheduled to take place in August at the North Shore Bapitst church of Chicago. Dr. and Mrs. Shackford Have Family Reunion At Branncrcrcst The family of Dr. and Mrs. John Sha kford, of Newport News, Va., enjoyed a reunion last week at Brannercrest, home of Mrs. Shackford, the former Miss Love Hranner Atkins, daughter of the late Bishop and Mrs. James Atkins. Among the members of the family present were Mr. and Mrs. Roger Walker, and two children, Tommy and Robert Walker, who make their home at Brannercrest; Mr. and Mrs. Atkins Shackford, and daugh ters, Margaret Milliard Shackford and Martha Hale Shackford, of Raleigh, Mrs. Lyle Otterness and daughter, Patricia Otterness, of Newport News, Va., Miss Margaret Shackford, of Newport News, Va., and Spartanburg, S. (J!. Three of the children, Dr. John B. Shackford, of the University of Illinois, Rev. Joe Shackford, of Ramseur, and Mrs. W. S. Matthews, of Chevy Chase, Va., were unable to be present. Other relatives joining the group were Mrs. James Atkins, Jr., and her sons and their families, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Jack Atkins, and Joe Jackson, Jr., and Betty Ruth, of Waynesville, and Mr. and Mrs. Ben Atkins, of Atlanta, and Mrs. Mil liard Atkins, of Waynesville. Dr. Shackford, a prominent Methodist minister, is serving in the Virginia conference. The W. E. Smiths Visit Mother On Love Lane Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Smith left Thursday after spending several days here as the guest of the lat ler's mother, Mrs. Claude Haynes on Love Lane. Mrs. Smith is the former Miss Emelyn Haynes. Mr. Smith is a veteran of World War II and served for two and one-helf years in the U. S. Navy. He is doing graduate work in physical education at present at the Uni versity of North Carolina, and plans to complete work in the fall, after which he will assume the duties of coach and health director in one of the Raleigh high schools, where they will reside. Miss Anne Edmonds, who has been attending Florida Southern College, Lakeland. Fla., arrived during the week, accompanied by her parents who went down to bring her home for the vacation. Miss Louise Martin, who is at tending Woman's College of the University of North Carolina, has arrived to spend the summer with her mother, Mrs. O. R. Martin.
