State Guard Brigade, will go to
Camp I'endelton, Va. during Au

According to Capt. Davis, the
state guard will he incorporated
into the National Guard when Con
gress authorizes its reorganization
Alre"ly a lull has been passed al
lowing tune spent in the National
Guard to be counted towards re
tirement, so the ex-serviceman--
especially former guardsmen -will
find it to their advantage to le-cn-lisl
now in the State Guard, he
adds. Although details still are
being worked out. certain benefits
will come to the man who com
pletes 20 or more years in the
guards.
North Carolina's State Guard
was organized early in 1941 after
the mobilization of the National
Guard. The present organization
contains three regiments of infan
try, three machine gun companies,
and three Hq. and Service com
panies. Col. J. Hardin Howell com
mands the second regiment, with
membership in towns west of
Statesville.
The state brigade has ranked
highest of any m the southeastern
part of the country, and some in
spectors have classed it the best
in the nation. It has trained at
Ft. Bragg during the past three

Reynolds Case
To Be Tried
In Miami
MIAMI. Fla. Characterizing her
husband as a "Dr. Jekyl and Mr.
Hyde,'' Mrs. Elizabeth Dillard Rey
nolds today filed a counter suit for
divorce in Dade county circuit
court against her husband, Richard
Joshua Reynolds, heir to a tobacco
fortune.
Reynolds, former mayor of Win-slon-Salem,
and former Democratic
national committee treasurer, filed
divorce proceedings here on May
;1 shortly alter his wife reportedly
had taken similar action in North
Carolina.
In her filed counter action, Mrs.
Reynolds denied that she is guilty
of a ' violent and ungovernable
temper'' as charged by Reynolds.
"The frequency with which he
went from one extreme to the other
made his life take on the character
istics of a Dr. Jekyl a Mr. Hyde,"
Mrs. Reynolds charged.
The counter action alleges that
while Reynolds was in the Pacific
on duty with the Navy, he wrote
letters to her and the children tell
ing them of his plans for a family
life, but that after his return to
this country, he silent two weeks
in New York without Mrs. Reynolds
knowing he was back.
She charges that Reynolds told
her he would not live with her
again and said he planned to marry
another woman, upon whom she
claims he has already bestowed
gifts amounting to $100,000. Ident
ity of the "other woman" was not
revealed.
Hearing on the divorce petition
and counter claim has been set for
10 a. m. Monday before Circuit
Judge George E. Holt.
Mrs. Reynolds' attorney said she
would arrive in Miami Sunday for
the hearing. Reynolds is reported
be living on an island off the Ba
hamas coast.
