"So then the Lord Jesus, after He had spoken unto them, was received up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God." The apostles went forth and preached everywhere. Of Jesus' Ascension Mark tells us "And He said unto them. Go ye Into the whole world, and preach the goepel to every crea ture He that heheveth and is bap tized shall he saved, hut he that believeth not shall be condemned " So then after the Lord had spoken unto them. He was re ceived up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God And they went forth and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirm ing the word with signs following Amen ' Ascension on ML of Olives The ascension occurred on Thursday May 18 the traditional site being the Mount of Olives, across from Jerusalem After ti.at Distributed by King they carried on His work faith fully, not in far places where they were not known, but In Jerusalem where their faces were familiar. You remember how the Holy Ghost descended upon them; how they were given power to speak In strange tongues, and of the great sermon Peter preached after. No longer afraid for themselves, caring only to bring the message to men. they spoke fearlessly and powerfully, converting many. Luke, in the Acts. 2:46. 47. says, "And they continuing daily with one accord In the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart. "Praising God. and having fa vor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church dally such as should be saved." These men. sometimes foolish in their acts and speech, afraid for their lives, when the Lord was with them, now became veritable lions in their fearlessness. They defied the authorities to give the message their Master had left with them. And. moreover, they were Joy ful as we all would be if we cast fear out of Aur lives and lived as Jesus told us to. They assembled each day tn the temple to take part in the ceremonies of the church At one another's homes they met after the day was over, "breaking bread," as the Bible says, sharing the evening meal, while giving thanks to God for foods and shelter, anu. above all, for the power that had been given them to preach the gospel and to carry on the work that their Friend and Lord had commanded them. "And every day, in the temple and at home, they ceased not to teach and to preach Jesus as the Christ " These were humble men, most of them not educated ac cording to our standards. Yet they had the power to convince men of the truth of their message be cause they so intensely believed it themselves and drew power from that belief Jesus had commanded them. "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to the whole creation," and they did it. Feature Syndicate, Inc. HAZELWOOD METHODIST CHURCH Rev. W. M. The Everyday Counselor KLV -by-HUKUEIIT SPAUGH, U. D. Thorny people are hard to get along with. Mul it can he done if there is a will lo do it. Domestic dillicull ics make up many of Ihe problems brought lo my study and desk. How to get along happily with husband or wile is a continual plea. These sloiics of marital unh.ip pincss sound very much alike. The recital is usually full of "Is." It is what "I" want lo do or have done. Usually the one who comes for conference or writes for coun sel has wrestled with the problem a long lime. II has heroine so large lo I hem I hat it has obscured most ol the good in the situation. When a problem slays continual ly in mind, il has a way of growing. 'I he more we look at it the larger it grows, and the more difficult it becomes to sec any way out. 'I he Bibles gives a striking picture in Ihe story of Daniel, wrestling with the problem vv h i e h involved his very life. The prophet was cast into a den of lions because he refused lo compromise his prin ciples. Immediate death was the expected result, but il did not hap pen. Daniel had his lifetime habit of praying to God there times daily. All hough a very busy man, he let nothing interfere with this prac tice. No doubt it enabled him to see trouble coming, even before it arrived He always kept hold of the prayer line. One artist's concept ion of the scene in Ihe lion's den has made an indelible impression, on my mind. It portrays the prophet standing with his face toward the sunlight streaming through the small grilled window, with his back to the lions. The lions seemed about as unconcerned about him as he about they. Doolittle Outlines Needs of Aviation New York. According to Lieut. Gen James 11. Doolittle, former commander of the L'niled Stales lith Air Force, the most pressing need of commercial aviation today is better ground facilities. Helping to unveil here one of the new DC-1's of the Chicago and Soul hern Air Lines, incorporating new passenger comfort and high speed features, General Doolittle said: "We flew from Houston lo Chi cago in three hours and lifi min utes in one of these ships yester day. Hut we were held up more than an hour and a half in taking off by ground conditions and were 33 minutes in gelling down in Chi cago because of gummy weather cond it ions. "What we need now is not only speed in the air in good ships but lo save over-all time." The new Chicago and Southern 50-passenger planes are claimed to he 25 miles an hour faster than other ships of this type, wilh wider seats and individual radios and other features. A grenadier originally was a soldier who carried and threw hand grenades. EXECUTOR'S NOTICE Having qualified as executor of the estate of W. A. If you really want help you will start looking for it. When your problem gets bigger and bigger stop looking at it. Head the words of the Psalmist, "I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills. From whence cometh my help? My help comelh from the Lord who made heaven and earth." If those in domestic trouble would only learn this lesson! Too many of them nurse their wrongs and they grow larger and larger in their eyes. The Divine Counselor has prom ised wisdom and guidance for all those who truly seek Him. Look at the lions in fear, and they will rend you. Turn your back upon them and look to God in trust; follow the leading which He will give you, and you will be amazed at the results.
