BERNARD OTTVVAY BURTON, the former Miss Rubyc Frames Brown, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Colvin Brown, of Wayiu-sville, whose marriage took place on Saturday, June 21, in the First Baptist church here. The bride is a graduate of Waynesville Township liih school, and the University of North Carolina, having ma jored in journal ism at the latter. She was a member of the Chi Delta 1'hi honorary society at the University and at the time of her marriage held a position with the Greensboro Daily News. Mr. Burton is a practicing attorney of Asheboro, and is a graduate of the Schools of Commerce and Law of the University of North Carolina and of the School of Industrial Engineering of Harvard University. Th jwood Company Waynesville Miss Jane Klutlz, Miss Edna Summerrow, Miss Catherine Jones and Miss Edith Suimnerrow visited the Biltmore Estate on July the -till Mr. and Mrs. Ii. B. Davenport and daughter Jane, and Mrs. W. F. i Smith, mother of the latter, at tended a family reunion in Wood- bury, Tenn, last week. Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Davenport will return home Wednesday. Mr Davenport went on to Howling Green, Ky., for a short visit with his parents. DEATHS MKS. AKSULA HOOPER Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at the Tucka seigee Baptist church, Jackson county Sunday afternoon at MO o'clock for Mrs. Arsula Adams Hooper, 51, widow of Oscar I.. Hooper, native of Transvlvania county, resident of the Balsam Road, who died at the Haywood County hospital Monday night. The Rev. W. N. Cook officiated. Burial was in the church ceme tery. Surviving were Mrs. R .P. Allen, of llazclwood, one brother, T. A. Adams, of Waynesville, Route 1; three step-sons, L. B. Hooper, of Whittier, C. R. Hooper, of Bryson City, and Zeb Hooper, of Waynes ville, Route 1; two step-daughters, Mrs. A. I'. Adams, of Haywood county, and Mrs. William Alexan der, of Tuckaseigee. Garrett Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. LINDA GAIL ROGERS Funeral services were held at Pleasant Balsam Baptist Church. Friday afternoon tor I.inria Gail Rogers, three and a half months old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dillard Rogers, who died at 2 :in o'clock Thursday afternoon at Hie homo of her parents, on Hyatt Creek. Rev. Nando Stephens of ficiated. Burial was in the Airing ton cemetery. Surviving are Hie parents, one sister, Betty Anne Rogers; one brother, Dillard Harold Rogers the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Downs, all of Waynes ville. R. F. No. 1. The Garrett funeral home was in charge of the arrangements. Frank C. Rogers Is Guest of Honor At Farewell Party Frank C. Rogers was guest of hnor at a farewell dinner given Saturday night at The Lodge by local and visiting Dayton Rubber company officials. Best wishes were given Mr. Rogers, who leaves the local plant which he has managed since Febru ary lil-14 to accept the position as assistant to the president of Norwalk Tire and Rubber company, by Mr. Freclander and three of the llazclwood plant officials: J. G. McKinley, manager; Clyde I.. Fisher and Herbert L. Buchanan, assistant managers. The president, Mr. Freclander extended greetings to all. and C. A. Annual Event at Lower Fines Creek Methodist Church Held This Month The a n n u a I clean-up-all-da -meeting will he held at the Lower Fines Creek Methodist Church cemetery on Thursday, July, 2T. All persons attending are asked to bring their own work tools, and dinner will be furnished on the grounds by the church at the noon hour. All persons who have friends and relatives buried in the ceme tery are asked to come and work that day. On Saturday, the 27th, the annual decoration of the graves will be held. The allair will last all day. and flowers may be brought to the cemetery at anv time during the day. Mrs. Calvin Houghland To Spend Summer Here Mrs. Calvin Houghland and two children of Nashville, Tenn., have arrived to spend the summer with her aunt, Mrs. Adora Similiters Rayno. Mr. Houghland joins his family on the week-ends. Mrs. Houghland was before her mar riage Miss Josephine Ilollilaus, of Way nesville and Richmond, Va. Benefit Bridge Held At St. John's School At the first bridge benefit of the season Wednesday night July :! in St. John's auditorium the winners were: In bridge, Men's high, Rev. Francis J.
