THE WAYNESVILLE MOUNTAINEER " PAGE FITE (Sond Section? 'IWIHDJ !4 11111 4 0 8 upreme Need Calvin Coolidge, during the trying clays of the 1920s, issued this i iwarning: "We do not need more national development; wo need more spiri-' tual development. We do not need more intellectual power; we need more moral power. We do not need more knowledge; wo need more character. We do not need more government; we need more religion. All of our learning and science, our culture and our arts will bo of little avail unless they are supported by high character. Unless there ho honor and truth and justice, unless our material resources are sup ported by moral and spiritual resources, there is no foundation for progress. A trained intelligence can do much but there is no substi tute for morality, character and religious convictions. Unless these abide, American citizenship will be found unegual to its task." These words are as true today as when they were first uttered. Every generation must be instructed in moral and spiritual values, and to be most effective such instruction should begin in childhood. .To "teach a child the way he should go" is still the essence of wisdom. The churches and Sunday Schools of America offer the youth and adults of this generation the moral and spiritual instruction which is so sorely needed. Won't you invito others to come with you this Sunday to Sunday School and church services? ALL FOR THE CHURCH THE CHURCH FOR ALL . . . The Church is the greatest laclor on earth for the building 1 character and good citizenship. It is a storehouse ot spiritual values. Without a strong Church, neithec democracy nor civilization oan survive. There are four, sound reasons why every person should attend and support the church of his choice. They are: (1) For his own sake. (2) For his children's sale. (3) For the sake ol his community and nation. (4) For the sake of the Church itself, which needs his moral and material support Plan to go to church on Sunday. tlSMtv . . lets, prtin, taM series of ads is being published each week in The Mountaineer under the auspices of the Haywood Ministerial Association and is being sponsored by tne loiiowmg patriotic individuals and business establishments: BRADLEY'S SUPER MARKET Hatelwood CASH GROCERY HuelwMd McKAY'S PHARMACY Haielwood H.S.WARD take JuaJnska GARRETT FURNITURE STORE WayaetTttle CLAUDETTE BEAUTY SHOP WivnetTille, K.
