Summer Visitors Break Pisgah
Forest Records
A record number of summer visi
tors is flocking to the Pisgah Na
tional forest, the scenic wonders
of the forest, the swimming pools,
the picnic areas and the hiking
trails. Ranger W. W. Huber an
nounced last week.
"The number of sightseers, pic
nickers and others far exceeded
our expectations," he staled, "and
cars from practically every slate
in the union can be seen driving
through the forest each day."
On week ends a checK-up reveals
that approximately one car per
minute enters the entrance to the
forest near Pisgah Forest, and
Ranger Huber said it would be im
possible to even try to estimate
the number of persons who have
visited in the forest this summer.
"Thousands of people are enjoy
ing the beautiful tijrive to Mount
Pisgah. leaving their ears at the
scenic parking area and hiking to
the peak of Pisgah to see the mag
nificent valleys below," he said.
The summer visitors have made
constant use of the picnic areas
and facilities, it is reported, and
improvement work in the Pisgah
district has progressed satisfactori
ly since June. Newly designed
concrete tables and fireplaces have
been built at most of the camping
and picnic grounds
The table and fireplaces at the
White Pine camp grounds and the
trailer camp and the Davidson
River camping and picnic grounds
have been rebuilt and additional
ones have been added.
Caretakers Planned
Plans are being made at the pres
ent time to have trained caretakers
to assist the campers and picnick
ers at most of the recreational
areas. Two crews slay busy clean
ing the grounds, but Ranger Huber
says the visitors this summer are
