THE WAYNESVILLE MOUNTAINEER TUESDAY, S EtemeJ PAGE EIGHT Radar Taught At Armys Big Training Unit Average Radar Course Lasts About Six Months; Men May Enroll It war, announced recently by Serjeant Francis M. Darcv, coni niander of the recruiting station in Lenoir, that the principles of rada" inaintenanee a.id repair equilHiient, are taurdit at the Army's Imw radar school located at Fort .Monmouth. New Jersey. All men who enroll in this school must have extensive knowledge of operation, repair and maintenance of radio sets. In the Army this knowledge- can he obtained by at tending the Signal Corps Kadio school. The average radar course lasts about six months and makes use of the self-progress method of in struction. This method enables a man to progress as rapidly as he tan absorb the material. The course is divided into these parts, or phases. First, the famil iarization phase in which the student becomes familiar with the outside appearance operation, simple adjustments and routine preventive maintenance proce dures. In the second phase, the student learns the complete step by step analysis pertaining to I In winking of each component part of the set. Every student perforins all the adjustments and tuning procedures. This phase is followed by a thorough session in trouble shooting. Upon completion of each phase the student is niven n practical written examination. The Army considers radar and its school so vital to our national defense that every type of equip ment is available for instructional purposes. The same policy, holds true for instructions.
