Atkins, Miss Helen Ray, Miss Frances Ray and Miss Hosalyn Ray entertained with a tea Thursday afternoon at their home on South Main Street as a courtesy to Miss Laura Mae Clau son, bride-elect whose marriage to William Shelton Ray, brother of the hostesses, will take place in November. For the occasion the residence was arranged throughout with bowls of flowers. In the entrance hall and living room gladioli and chrysanthemums in autumnal shades lent a decorative note. In the dining room the bridal motif was used with the tea table centered with an arrangement of white pompoms and greenery. The table was covered with a lace cloth and the appointments were in .sil ver, with while tapers in holders placed at either side. Bowls of white gladioli graced the side board and auxiliary tables. The hostesses received in the living room and with them were the bride-elect and her mother, Mrs. Eric Thomas Clauson. All wore corsages of chrysanthemums and roses. Greeting the guests at the ent rance were: Mrs. Charles E. Ray, Jr. during the first hour and Mrs. J. Wilfred Ray during the second hour Inviting the callers into the din ing room from four to five was Mrs. Whitener Prevost and Mrs. Felix Stovall received from five to six. Presiding at the tea table from four to five were Mrs. T. Lenoir Cwyn and Mrs. Richard N. Barber, Jr. during the first hour and Mrs. Clyde H Ray and Mrs. Charles E. Quinlan from five to six. Also re ceiving here were Mrs. M. H. Bowles from 4 to 5 and Mrs. Ralph Music Club To Hold October Meet In Sylva The Waynesville Music Club will hold the October meeting in Sylva tonight at the home of Mrs. Grover Wilkes, with Mrs. Paul hi is and Mrs .Wilkes, both mem bers of the group serving as joint hostesses. Mrs. John Taylor, president of the club will preside. Mrs. Wilkes and Mrs. Ellis will present the pro gram of the evening which will feature several duo piano num bers. Lake Junaluska School To Have Hallowe'en Party There will be a Hallowe'en party held at the Lake Junaluska school at 7:00 o'clock on Thursday eve ning, October 31. The usual Hallo we'en features of entertainment and food will be included in the evening's program. Prevost from five to six. Serving were: Mrs. Howard Hy att, Mrs. Thomas L. Campbell, Jr,, Mrs. Kimball Barber, Mrs. William Prevost. Mrs. Sam H. Bushnell, Jr., and Mrs. Leon M. Killian, Jr. Others assisting during the af ternoon were Mrs. Robert Breece, Mrs. Albert Maye, Mrs. Robt. L. Coin and Mrs. Jack Messer. During the hours from four to six approximately two hundred guests called to meet the bride-elect. Mr. Ralph Prevost entertained with a chicken dinner at the out Boor fireplace on the grounds of the residence Monday night in celebration of the fortieth birth day anniversary of her husband. She was assisted in serving by Mrs. Hallet Ward. Mr. Prevost was given a surprise handkerchief shower by the guests and received a total of 50 handker chiefs. Following the serving of dinner the guests played cards. Among those inylted to the af fair were: M. H. Grace Mitchell Becomes Bride B. G. Henderson Mrs. Ella Mae Mitchell of Waynesville has announced the marriage of her daughter, Miss Grace E. Mitchell, Cr. Sp. (Q), USNR, to Bobby G. Henderson, ACRM, USN, which took place Sat urday afternoon, Oct. 19, at the home of Mr .and Mrs. Paul Kellar, Windsor Lane, Key West, Fla. Both Chiefs wore dress white uniforms for the marriage which was witnessed by a small group of friends. The bride had as her only attend ant, Miss Isabell McKnight and the bridegroom had as his best man Paul Kellar. The bride is a graduate of the Waynesville Township high school and of the Business school of St. John's school. At the time she vol unteered in the WAVES she was employed in clerical work at Wright Air Field, Dayton, Ohio. The bridegroom is a native of Los Angeles, Calif, and when the couple are discharged from the service they plan to make their home in California. Both the bride and bridegroom are stationed currently at Boca Chicp Field, Key West. The bride is serving at the Issuing office on the post. J. T. Harrell Given Dinner On 85th Birthday J. T. Harrell was honored last Sunday at his home in Cove Creek with a surprise dinner. The occa sion marked his 85th birthday an niversary. The guest list included a large number of relatives. R. L. Burgin, Jr., and Richard Bradley returned Wednesday after a two weeks buying trip in Balti more, isew York and Buttalo. While in New York they visited J. D. Hyatt and Miss Eloise Martin, who are attending schools of music and dancing. Carolyn Curtis Bride-Elect Honored On 23rd Mrs. Robert Millar was hostess of a party on Wednesday evening in compliment to Miss Carolyn Curtis, whose marriage will be an important event of the week, tak ing place Sunday afternoon, the 27th at the First Methodist Church at 5 o'clock in the afternoon. The affair was given at the Mil lar home on the Fairview Road, which was arranged in quantities of yellow and bronze shaded chrys anthemums. Since the bride-elect is excep tionally fond of small potted plants the guests showered her with a miniature collection of potted plants. The evening was also featured by various games after which the guests were invited into the dining room. Each place was marked by a corsage of chrysanthemums. The guest list included Miss Cur tis, bride-elect, Mrs. Zeb Walton Curtis, mother of the bride-elect, Miss Dorothy Richeson, Miss Betty Gene Alley, Miss Merrill Green, Miss Mildred Summerrow, Miss Elizabeth Ferguson, Mrs. W. H. F. Millar, Miss Catherine Jones, Mrs. Walsie Morris, Mrs. Calvin McDan iels, and Mrs. Bruce Janes. EOS To Hold Annual Birthday Party On 8th The annual birthday party of the Waynesville Chapter of the Eastern Star will be held at the home of Mrs. John N. Shoolbred on Monday evening at G:30 o'clock. There will be a supper served, with each member bringing a cov ered dish. This will be followed by a program featured by various numbers.
