Letters To Editor
'Continued From Page Two)
grand welcome to so great a man,
so deserving as Mr. Ferguson, and
I m sure there will be no regrets
'hat it has been done so well. It is
my regret, however, that I was
not present, as 1 well remember
Mr. Ferguson in the earlier days
and it would have been a joy to
me to have helped in this dserving
tribute to him.
But this note is to congratulate
the force of the grandest little BIG
newspaper that is in the state. The
Mountaineer, for the part it played
in this event. Without the public
ity in the way it was given there
probably would not have been
quite the enthusiasm that seems
to have been in evidence. I bet
the folks in old Haywood love their
newspaper, and well they might,
as it is the biggest asset that goes
to make up a county with so many
wonderful assets. Every issue of
your paper seems to me to get
better than the last one and I am
becoming a little homesick as the
news of my favoiite spot is so un
derstanding set forth in a way
that makes scenes as if they were
not the forty years ago stuff, but
ns of yesterday in my memory as
I grew up there, and remembering
the part I played in the early
newspaper experience when the
now Mountaineer was not thought
of in the light it holds today. I
have been away from its influence
about 38 years now, in person, but
tlx" heart has always been in Hay
wood county and with its news
paper as mv first love!
With fond remembrances of old
Haywood and kindest thought of
