Lenoir Gwyn on Friday afternoon. Mrs. W. F. Swift, regent, presided. Miss Stringfleld presented three of her music students from the Clyde high school in the following program: Violin duet, "Our Boys." by Sousa, and "America s r roni. by Sousa, played by Arthur Moon and Joseph Medford, accompanied by Miss Stringfteld at the piano; two piano solos, "Narcissus", by Nrvin and "To a Wild Rose". Mc Dowell, by Doris Graham. Two violin solos with Miss Slringficld as accompanist, "151110 Danube Waltz," and an "Irish Washerwoman", two old favorites of the late Mrs. W. W. Slringficld. The program colsed with the sing ing of "Holy Night", by the group. Announcement was made by the regent of four scholarships total ing $200, given to Crossnore school endorsed by DAR by Mrs. Andrew Moore, of Greenville, S. C. the former Miss Miriam welch, oi Waynesville. The scholarships were presented through the chapter, of which Mrs. Moore is a member, in memory of her son Thomas Evans Moore, who was killed while a student at a school in Virginia. A rising vote of thanks was extend ed to Mrs. Moore for the gift. Announcement was made by Mrs. .1 F. Abel, chairman of Cressnore school that boxes of clothing valued at $25.00 had been sent to the school in the name of the chapter by Miss Nanette Jones and Miss S. A. Jones. The secretary read a Christinas card from Mrs: Eugene Talniadge, president general of the National Society, and another from the state regent of South Carolina. The agent displayed a copy of the Bill of Rights sent by the War Finance Division to the chapter in recognition of a 90 per cent mem bership purchase of war bonds and stamps Mrs. Chas. E. Quinlan ma ulea for more subscriptions to national magazine and urged that two copies be taken by the chapter one for the county library and an other for the chapter regent. A collection was taken of gifts brought by the members for dis tribution at the Veterans hospital in Asheville. which had been asked by the state chairman. Among the guests at the meet ing were: Mrs Nettie White of Richmond. Va., Mrs. J. H. Way. Ill, of Richmond. Va.. Mrs. Paul Town send. Mrs. F. G. Rippetoe. Mrs. Sam Queen.
