r PAGE,, SIX (Third SeetTonf THE WAYNES VILLE MOUNTAINEER HERE and THERE (Continued From Page Two) and articles on and from China, some of them hundreds of years old, brought by missionaries and men in service to America. You will be interested and surprised in the number of books and things on display. H'c noted two books by a former Waynesville woman, in the collection for the young readers, "Yen-Foh", and "Ling, Grandson of Yen Foh", by Ethel Jones Eldridge, of Ohio, sister of Miss S. A. and Miss Nanette Jones. Now that prewar customs and events are gradually being resumed, we think it is time for a revival of the flower shows, which the wo men's organizations of the com munity formerly sponsored, which brought hundreds of visitors from other sections here in the summer. During the war years flower gar dens were neglected1, for obvious reasons, lor other things were more urgent . We feel that these shows would again serve as an impetus to the growing of more and better flowers. One of the old timers would be greatly missed, "Uncle Will Shclton", but we still have Mr. J B. Ivey. who did so much to make the .shows of the highest standard. We would like for the Woman's club to take special notice of this suggestion, not that we are wishing to put any more work on the president, but it is time for these events to start up again. We hope in the revival that both shows will be included, for there is a place for each, the Spring show, with its exhibitions of perennials, and the late summer show, with its glory of dahlias, gladioli and an nuals. Housing also is a problem that many leagues are attacking on the local, state and national level. The Wagner-Ellender-Taft bill had the atcive suport of the League in the 79th Congress, and any bill similar to it will be supported in this Congress, according to the League. "Other nations are concei neo not only with what we do about our tariffs, but also with what we do to control inflation in the U. S. and a possible recession or depression," Miss Strruss says. "They are so de pendent upon our economy that their standard of living will be changed according to decisions made in this country." Since this get-together will be held in mid summer, etc., this close commu nion might prove, well, shall we say, slightly disagreeable at times.! It is said that three or four wrote in wanting to know what the world was coming to, anyhow, with visitors reclining on the back benches and as usual! The very idea! The matter was straightened out among these non-Catholic listen ers when they were informed that me ounaay visitors are papers distributed each Sunday at the church similar to the "Charity and Children and "Christian Advo cate."
