Bob Putnam's pitching and er
rorless support in the field set the
stage for the W-H All Stars to
down the Can'on Triangle club S
to 4 Wednesday night, staving off
a last inning attack by the C'unlon
club thai threatened to reverse
the decision.
The All Stars took advantage of
the breaks to score the first in
ning, and finally got their eye on
German "Nazi" Miller's curves in
the fourth, bringing in four with as
many hits. After this Powell came
in to relieve Miller, holding the
All Stars scoreless.
Elmer Dudley was the first to
get home, taking first when the
catcher missed the third strike,
advancing on a wild pilch, and
scoring on Henry's single.
Then in the fourth Yount and
Henry singled, Lane was hit by a
pitched ball, and Hoylc bunted
to score Yount. Troutman scored
when Putnam grounded out pitch
es to first, then Dudley blasted a
double to bring in Lane and Boyle
for a 5-0 lead held until the last of
the ninth.
The Triangles offered their big
threat then, with Wilson getting a
free trip to first, Shields hitting a
double and Powell another, scor
ing Wilson. Then Butch Smathers
rapped out a homer along the left
field foul line to clean the bases,
but the side was retired with the
All Stars still ahead and back on
top of the Smoky Mountain League.

The National Guam turned their
heavy weapons on Dayton Rubber
in Monday night's softball feature,
winning 14 lo 4 and coming from
the cellar into a tie with the Rub
merites for third place in stand
ings. Then on Tuesday night
Bronsoii Robinson held the Pet
Dairymen to live hits while Sut
ton's big team chalked up a 14-5
victory and found themselves on
tup of the heap, a half-game ahead
of tht Tannery.
Standings are due to shift again
tonight, with another battle on
deck between the National Guard
and Tannery; the program opening
with a name between the top teams
of the minor division. High School
and Youth Club.
Monday the Lions, down in the
bottom with two losses this week,
take on the High School, and Pet
meets Dayton in the second game.
Youth Club Swats Lions
Although the Lions belted five
runs the first inning and kept ahead
until the bottom of the seventh,
the Youth Club kept up the pres
sure and brought home the runs
in the pinch. Behind 11 to 8, Gar
relt stalled oir their final turn at
plate, getting lo first on error,
Craig took flirt on fielder's choce,
and Charles Burgin smacked a
home run to lie the score. Price
doubled, advanced on York's single,
and scored as Pink Francis hit
safely for the decisive run. Shiny
Hyatt starred for the losers, with
three hits including a homer
for four trips to the plate.
Anti-Tankers Win
With three home runs smacked
during the game, the National
Guard showed too much power for
Daytou, keeping a safe margin
throughout. Lawrence Robinson's
double brought in two of five runs
made the first inning, and scored
two more on a homer in the sixth;
while Ed Scales and Ken Trout
man also knocked themselves
round-trip tickets. Sam Carswell's
slow ball proved as effective as
Jim Phillip's fast ones from the
mound, with Dayton batters pop
ping oul whenever they got in a
position to do some damage.
Lions Fall Again
Both teams started off evenly
Tuesday night, then in the fifth
Sutton's juniors iced the game with
a 7-niii inning. Bill Sutlon and
Charles Woinack hit homers as
they batted around the lineup off
Coach Wcalherhy, assisted by two
infield errors, and the juniors
walked away with an 18-0' win.
Anil So Does Pet

Phillips, Sutton's smooth working

singled and came in his three
trips at bat for the standout work
of the gamu. Pel offered a 7th
inning threat, when Bob Suttonfield
