Fat butcher beef type cows de clined liuiy l.Uu, looping around 14.75, medium type 10.00 to 12.00, canners and cutters ranged from 8.00 to 10.00. Medium to good heifers cleared from 16.00 to 19.00, and most common and dairy types, sold downward to 12.00. Very few good butcher steers were offered ranging from 22.00 to 24.00, me dium types cleared from 18.00 21.00, and fair to medium 13.00 to 15.00. A few very common and dairy type steers cleared from 11.00 to 13.00. Good fat butcher bulls weighing around 1200 pounds and up cleared from 17.00 to 18.25, fair to medium types 14.00 to 16.00, and very common grade from 12.00 to 14.00. Medium to good fat vealers ranged from 20.00 to 22.00, fair to medium 17.00 to 19.00 and culls and dairy type 12.00 to 16.00. Plumbing, Heating Contractors Bus Crash Sends 16 To Virginia Hospital SUFFOLK, Va Sept. 22 (UP) A bus wreck near the Virginia North Carolina border sent 16 per sons to a Suffolk, Va., hospital this morning. Three of the victims are critically injured. The bus was carrying a Negro singing group home to Newport News, Va., from a performance last night at Doduco, N. C. The bus driver Charles Cheek of Newport News said the bus failed to make a curve and crashed into a tree near Whaleyville, Va. Cheek was badly hurt. Eight of the injured Negroes were released after treat ment. 1914 Model Car Poses Doctor's Dilemma CLEVELAND (UPl Dr. Max well Harbin, like many other folks has automobile problems these days, but his are of a different na ture. Defends Their Price Control Stdnd NEW YORK, Sept. 22 (UP) The National Association of Man ufacturers, which once predicted that prices would fall if price con trols were abolished, has denounced recent critics who have called it poor prophet. The NAM, in its weekly publica tion, says production of goods is up. And it says the only reason prices haven't levelled off is the fact that there was a wave of strikes last year, holding produc tion down when it was most needed to case inflation pressures. Symphony Auditions To Be Held On Oct. 4 Auditions for musicians who wish to participate in North Caro lina symphony conceru for the coming season will be held in Ra leigh at Meredith college audito rium Saturday afternoon, October 4, from 2 until 5 o'clock, Dr. Ben jamin Swalin, conductor of the or chestra, announced. "These auditions are open to adult soloists, child soloists under 17 years of age and to all orches tral musicians who wish to partic ipate in the programs for the com ing year," he said. "Last season there were 14 so loists from the state who played with the orchestra eight of these promising musicians were chil dren," Swalin said. "Our youngest soloist, age nine, was so small that she could hardly reach the piano pedals." Children interested in entering the auditions on October 4 should write the Symphony office in Chapel Hill for a list of recom mended" concertos. Rehearsals Begun For Musical Play In Canton Rehearsals for the musical pro duction "Now And Then," spon sored by Champion YMCA and scheduled to be given In Canton high school auditorium October 2-3-4, swung into action this week under direction of Henry Rock hold, representing the Rogers Pro duction company. Proceeds from the performance will be used in behalf of the YMCA World Youth fund. Marie Bell, social chairman of Champion Y, is assisting Mr. Rock hold in selecting musical talent for the show. Calling All Fishermen SANDPOINT, Idaho (UP) Con servation officers actually are beg ging for more fishermen in this section of Idaho. The report many smaller lakes need to be fished more heavily to reduce bass and crappie population. In 1946 a total of 21,611 deer were killed in Maine, but an esti mated 150,000 still were roaming the woodlands more than when the first white man came to the state.
