Jay Carlton Burrell Has Sixth Birthday Party Tuesday Jay Carlton Burrell celebrated his sixth birthday last Tuesday with a party at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Burrell in Hazelwood. The young host was assisted in entertaining by his mother and Mrs. Glenn Wyatt. The guests played games on the lawn after which they were served refreshments of ice cream, cake and Coca-Cola and were also pre sented with a party favor. Sept. 29 (UPi Manager Eddie Dyer today signed a one year contract to manage the St. Louis Cardinals in 1948. Terms were not disclosed, but the con tract reportedly calls for an in crease over the figure paid Dyer for 1946 and 1947. The name of Pakistan, given the new Moslem country carved out of India, is taken from the names of the territories within the area. Johnson was graduated from Robbinsville high school and served with the Army Air Forces in the Pacific the atre. After a short wedding trip the couple is residing at the home of the bridegroom's parents. Civic League Meets With Mrs. R. L. Allen The initial fall meeting of the Civic League was held Wednesday afternoon at the home of the pres ident, Mrs. R. L. Allen. Mrs. Al len presided and the meeting was opened with the usual patriotic program. v The need of a Y. M. C. A. was brought to the attention of the members and the league voted to cooperate in obtaining one for Waynesville. The members also went on record as starting a hu mane society as a branch of their league. A social hour followed the busi ness session. CARPENTER'S HOLIDAY MILWAUKEE, (UP) Frank Gratz, a 62-year-old carpenter, has solved his housing situation. Dur ing his two-week vacation, Gratz bought an 80 by 125 foot lot and, with the help of hs wife and occa sional assistance of a married son, built a four-room one-story home.
