Lem uel Parrott wss charged with mur dering Kenneth Taylor In January of last year. A co-defendant, Sam Thompson pleaded guilty to second decree murder but Parrott was convicted of murder in - the first degree, a conviction which carries a mandatory death sentence. MRS. SP1LMAN NAMED TO STATE COMMISSION Mrs. J. B. Spilman director of the Greenville employment office, has been appointed by Gov. Cherry to the North Carolina Resource- Use Commission. An educational and political leader, she is a for mer vice chairman of the state Democratic executive committee. CLERK SENTENCED FOR JEWELRY LARCENY A fun-loving young executive, 22-year-old Guy Wesson, entered a plea of guilty to larceny at his trial Tuesday in Gaston county Su perior Court, drawing a term of from 2Vi to 3 years. A Gastonia policeman testified that Wesson ad mitted selling or pawning Jewelry from the department he managed in a local store, and spent much of the money on parties: CLEVELAND COUNTY COMBATS RABIES THREAT In an effort to combat a threat ened epidemic of rabies, Cleveland county has instituted a 30-day quarantine on all dogs. County Health Officer Z, P. Mitchell say si all dogs found roaming have been ordered shot on sight until the end of the quarantine. . Over 100 dogs have been killed in Kings Mountain where a quar antine has been in effect for sev eral weks. However. Dr. Mitchell says new instances of mad animals are reported every week. Last week, he says, members of two families in the Kings Mountain area were bitten by rabid dogs Mad dogs have been reported in four townships elsewhere in the county.
