Hyatt, chairman of National Defense, reported on the 40th annual Declamation Contest sponsored by the chapter in the Waynesville High School last week, stating that ten contestants took part on the program. Woman's Club To Meet Thursday At Oak Park The regular monthly meeting of the Waynesville Woman's Club will be held Thursday afternoon, at 3:30 at Oak Park. jrtrs. Raymond C. Lane will be guest speaker and a musical pro gram will be presented. Hostesses for the afternoon will be Mrs. Grover Davis, Mrs. Troy Wyehe and Mrs. Fraik Ferguson. AT MISSION HOSPITAL G. C. Plott has entered Mission Hospital, Asheville. where he will undergo an operation. I tamed with a miscellaneous show er at the home of Mrs. Richeson. The bridal motif was noted in all party appointments and vases of white gladiuli and spirea were used in decoration of the rooms. The honor guest was presented with a shower of miscellaneous gifts, which were arranged on a large tray centered with a bride doll. Mrs. Bryson Is Hostess Of Iron Duff Club Mrs. Harley Bryson was hostess of the March meeting of the Iron Duff Home Demonstration Chub last Friday afternoon. Mrs. J. R. Caldwell presided. The demonstration on "Interior Decorating" was presented by Miss Mary Margaret Smith and leader reports were given as follows: foods, Mrs, Fannie Davis; garden, Mrs. Oral Yates; po'ultry, Mrs. Harley Bryson; house furnishings, Mrs. E. W. White; home manage ment, Mrs. F. E. Chambers; family life, Mrs. C. O. Newell; home beau tificalion, Mrs. T. C. Davis; and clothing, Mrs. J. R. Caldwell. Also included on the program were two book reviews. Mrs. F. E. Chambers reviewed "Gentlemen's Agreement" by Hobson, and Mrs. Oral Yates gave a summary of "King's Blood Royal," by Lewis. During the social hour the host ess served a dessert course. In serving lamb kidneys allow three for each serving. In prepar ing them they should be washed and halved and the thick white conective tissues removed. To insure a mild flavor they may be soaked in salted water for a few hours. Charles Howell Has Birthday Party Friday Charles Howell entertained a group of his young friends on Fri day evening at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Howell, in celebration ol his eleventh birth day anniversary. A color scheme of yellow and green was observed in the party appointments and spring flowers were used in decoration. The host was assisted in serving by his mother, and his sisters, Betty Ar.ne and Martha Howell, and Judy Cabe. Following the serving of refresh ments the guests were entertained at the Park Theatre. Those attending the party in cluded David Felmet, Freddie Muse, Carroll Davis, Douglas Moore, Joe Liner, Jr., John David Cabe, Boyd Gardner, Bobbie Gard ner. Hughie Moody, and Joe How ell, Jr. M Slack's To Present Spring Fashion Show Slack s annual Spring Fashion Show will be presented tomorrow afternoon at the Strand theatre, at ri:3U o'clock. No admission will he charged and the public is in vited to attend. Miss Margaret Corbin, assistant home demonstration agent, will direct the show and models will include the following 4-11 club girls: Betty Jo Garrell and Nancy Poston, of Bethel; Peggy Noland and Thomasine Fisher, of Waynes ville; Maxine Mann and Betty Ann Jones, of Canton; Margaret Noland and Joan McElroy of Crabtree; Mildred Ferguson, of Fines Creek, and Mary Frances McCracken, of Clyde. All types of spring suits, coats, dresses and accessories will be shown. Neal, of Reidsville arrived Sunday for a visit to Mr. and Mrs. Ben Sloan Baptist Society Has Program On Christian Home A program on "Tht Christian Home Our Immediate Task," was given at the March meeting of the Woman's Missionary society of the First Baptist Church which was held last Tuesday afternoon at the church. The program was presented by the Ann Hasseltine Judson Circle with Mrs. Henry Davis in charge, and the theme was portrayed as a shower for a bride. Green and white flowers formed the back ground for the program and the following members took part: Mrs. Maude Jones who gave "Home Sweet Home"; Mrs. Jack Messer, who gave "Influence of the Home"; Mrs. Milas Ferguson, who gave Building Christian Homes"; Miss Alma Jackson, "Home and Mis sions," and Mrs. J. B. Siler, who gave "For Home". During the business session re ports showed the Lottie Moon Circle to be ahead in attendance record. Mrs. Charles H.
