I?.. of the 82nd Airborne division, Fort Bragg, for the Third Army -Ninth Air Force training maneuver which will take place in the Kentucky-Tennessee border region during the month of May. Army and Air Force personnel from posts and bases throughout the seven southeastern states will assemble at Camp Campbell, Ky. The exercises will open with the 82nd division paratroopers "hitting the silk" to establish and hold an airhead. These troopers will be inwiv followed bv ground rein forcements moving overland to support this airhead. The man- euver will end in a four-day all-; out offensive starting May 24. L'Pi The ranks of Washington's remaining Civil War veterans were cut in half by the death of Jacob Cheadle. Cheadle was one of the two menjbers of the GAR living in the state. Now. Hiram Gale of Seattle is the last survivor of the war be tween the states. The Olympia veteran died at his home shortly after celebrating his 100th birthday. Cheadle was born in what is now Newport. O.. March 4. 1848. He served with the 39th Missouri Vol unte an infantry outfit in the Union Army, when he was 16.
