Summer Visitors
W B. Kennedy, retired business
executive, and Mrs Kennedy, who
spend their winters in Florida, al
ways are among the first visitors to
arrive in Waynesville for the sum
mer. They are at Oak Park. But
while Mr Kennedy rales Waynes
ville high as a resort spot he has
a complaint about which the Cham
ber of Commerce or Sheriff Welch
can't du much, if anything. "Only
bad thing hereabouts,'' he said, "is
radio reception. Often you can't
hear what you particularly want to
hear, the big political conventions,
for example. Perhaps the high hills
are the cause, and the mountains
just can't be moved, 1 guess But
things will be different when
WHCC gets a network hookup ."

Mr. and Mrs Haul D Cochran,
of Tampa, are Waynesville two-timers.
That is. they come to the
Country Club for a month s visit
! in early summer, go home and
come back again in the early fall.
A hot golfer. Mr. Cochran persu
aded his friend, W. Paul Vance to
! join him. Both are Rotarians and
both have served long terms as
j members of the Tampa municipal
' hospital board.
There are 67 counties in Florida
and each is designated by the first
number on automobile tags, the
biggest coming first. Visitors here
from other states often identify
home spots of Fioridians by their
tags. If you see that number one
first they are from Miami; two.
from Jacksonville, three, from
Tampa; four, from St. Petersburg,
and so on.

Large Number Of
Boats Used For
Pleasure At Lake

was the first time this season that
boats with motors larger than 5
horsepower were permitted on the
lake. Most motors used Monday
were of 22-horsepower size.
Most of the boat 'owners were
from Waynesville and Canton, and
devoted most of the afternoon to
I "straight" riding, but at tunes bil
ling in circles and opening up the
.throttles. The boats stayed in the
it the lake from the cross to the
dam, and did not venture beyond
i that point.
A large crowd lined the banks to
watch the boats maneuver about
the lake and many were taken for
rides by their Iriends who owned
boats.
Huntsmen in this area are anx
ious to work oul special time of
the week for using that portion of
the lake for general pleasure riding.
