C anton tans was ideal Friday night. Year after year, the Waynesville ; Canton game is the hardest and Imosl bitterly fought game of the year but the sportsmanship dis ! jilay?d is always of top quality. While we are on the sportsman ; ship subject, it was brought to i our attention the fact that the ! Wavnesville cheering section and fans retuse to yell when the Can ton cheer leaders make their visit to t lie Waynesville skie at halt tinie With just a li I tie coopera l ion this, the Waynesville-Canton rivalry and sportsmanship could be advanced to further perfection. Our congratulations to Mr. Trout man and the Canton band for their marked improvement over last year. It is nice to know that our schools, bands and football teams are always trying to improve themselves year by year. The conditioning of the two teams was top notch again this year. Neither team suffered any serious injury and only two men were removed from the game. In view of the hard blocking and vicious tackling, it takes well con ditioned men to play the game when Waynesville and Canton meet. The Waynesville band under Di rector Charles Isley was at its best. During half-time Ihe band formed what appeared to be a circle but when the field lights were turned out. the members turned on small lifU'ls and a full nioon came out with the song "Carolina Moon". The fans were treated to a delightful hall-time by the two bands. " There was only one mishap to mar the first game of 19411 between these two teams. One of our visit ors from Canton was injured in a fall just prior to game time and suffered a broken leg. It has been brought to our at tention, two incorrect scores in the series between the Mountaineers and Bears. In 1926, we had the score as Weynesville 27 Canton 0 and it should have read Waynes ville 20 Canton 0. In 1928, Waynes ville 12 Canton 0 should have been Waynesville 12 Canton 6. We ap preciate these corrections because they came from Coach C. C. Poin detler, who as head coach at Waynesville during those years.
