BYERS Chairman Haywood Democratic Executive Committee. County Republicans Hear Priichard At George M. Pritchard, the Repub lican candidate for governor, and Wm. W. (Tony) Candler, nominee for congress from the 12th con gressional district, were heard at the county-wide rally held at the Canton high school Monday night. Mr. Pritchard told his audience that he favors Improved school buildings, an increase in teachers' pay, a revised old-age assistance program, Improvement to rural roads and the reduction of the state's automobile lisense fee to $5.00. Mr. Candler spoke briefly dur ing the program, and Joe Pressley, Haywood's Republican candidate for representative, appeared on the platform. He also led in the enter tainment program with members of his string band, and "Pan-handle Pete" of West Ashevllle. The county executive meeting was held al the Canton town hall Thursday night, when plans were made to further organize the work in the precincts and secure regis tration of all voters. Joe Pressley, the parly's candidate for repre sentative, will visit each township during the coming weeks in inter est of the registration and his cam paign. He will be accompanied by members of his string band, giving musical programs. The following precinct chairmen were asked to further organize their territory and set that every voter is registered, and that they cast their ballot on election day. The Auxiliary of Veterans' of Foreign Wars presented each of the nine draftees a package which included a pocket size book. 2 pack ages of cigarettes, candy and chew ing gum The packages were pre sented by Mrs. Roy Campbell, chairman of the service committee. Mrs. Ethel Fisher, executive secre tary of Red Cross, assisted in wrap ping the packages. Mrs. J. C. Rose donated the pocket books. Canton Children Slightly Injured In Bus Accident Several children were slightly injured and shaken up, when the Canton high school bus in which they were riding, went out of con trol and struck a light pole on the Fibreville road Tuesday morning. J. C. Sorrells. Jr.. high school student driver, was cleared of all blame for the accident, after Can ton patrolmen and school officials made a complete investigation of the mishap. They discovered the steering rod apparently had broken as he attempted to make the curve. The impact caused minor bruises to several of tbe children, who "ere taken immediately to a doc tor for treatment. The driver sus tained a broken bone in his hand. Revival Services Begin At Beulah Church Sun. A series of revival services will begin at the Beulah Baptist Church Sunday evening, it was announced today by the pastor, Rev. K. "W. Mehaffey. Assisting in the services will be the Rev. C. H. Green, pastor of the West Canton Baptist Church, and the Rev. Doyle Miller of the Dutch Cove Baptist Church.
