WE FINANCE SINS MOTOR CO. Main Street THE WAYNES VILLE MOUNTAINEER Drunken Driving Violations Show Slight Decrease Drunken driving convictions in North Carolina took a tumble in 1948. with 8,453 persons losing their rife'lit to drive because of drunken driving,' as compared with 9,059 convictions for the same of fense in 1947, the Motor Vehicle Department announced today. Total license revocations in 1948 were 10,933, as compared to 11,665. for the previous year. The 1948 re vocation summary included 842 persons who lost their licenses while driving drunk out-of-state, 576 driving drunk and miscellan eous; 284 driving after license had been revoked, and 55 driving after license revoked and miscellaneous. A total of 195 persons lost their driving rights in 1948 for two of fenses of drunken driving, and 121 for larceny of automobiles; 116 li censes were revoked for two offen ses of reckless driving; 16 for man slaughter; and 16 for hit and run driving. Fourteen motorists had their li censes revoked for a third offense of driving drunk, which means that their driving rights are taken away permanently unless at the end of five years they can prove they are entitled to have them back. Then they will be given due considera tion. In addition to the revocation summary, the Department also re leased a complete tabulation of minor traffic violations in North Carolina during 1947 and 1948. These convictions did not consti- (ute revocation or suspension on first offense. Tortal convictions during 1948 reached 66,192, as compared with 59,787 during 1947. Speeding led for both years 30,844 convictions during 1948. as compared with 20,237 during the previous year. A salad children enjoy is made from banana halves sprinkled with chopped roasted peanuts. A lit tle night life sometimes can be a good thing for hens, says John H. Whitworth, poultryman. Asked to supply a hen for a scene in a local production of the play "Dress Rehearsal," Whitworth donated a hen that hadn't laid an o)'R in many months. The hen was returned to him after the performance, and be found it had laid an egg in the ben house next morning. When he was approached again, Whitworth, out of curiosity, donated a different non-layer. Next morning he discovered the KuHc.H -nOO'LL rXl ' J 1 (1 o ! TiAUGGS AND SKEETER rr '.'J 7. '.tT&i .
