Haywood An Average County Haywood county has often been referred to as the "average North Carolina county." This is more fact than fiction, according to the recent reports coming from Raleigh. In numerous instances, state appropriations have been broken down to county levels, and m almost every instance, Haywood's .-hare is one-hundredth of the total. That makes the figuring easv for Havwood tesklents in trying to study pending legis-hitio;-,. Out of every SI 00 spent for state-wide i projects. Haywood on the average gets $ 1. ! K'.om the proposed $2(M) million road prn--ivm. Havwood would get about $200.000. ! 17. 'in the $102 million education program. Hayw 1 would get about $100,000. Drunken Drivers PM !'.) r:e: hi. i.L :ab:. We heartily agree with Judge Dan K. .Moore m his charge to tne grand jury, when he pointed out the necessity of upholding i in highway patrolmen in enforcing the laws. Wc also like the manner in which Judue Moore rapped drivers who take the wheel while drunk, or drive recklessly. - We further agree that wc have five good patrolmen in Haywood and records show that drunken drivers are being reduced to a minimum, but then even a minimum is too many. Those who travel Haywood highways while under lnflut-'ttee of liquor might as well . eidize now that if one of fhe five patrolmen ea'.ch them, and they go before Judge Moore, they will get to pay the penalty of the law. We have often said that the maximum pen alty of any law yet written is not too severe t or the pei son who drives while' under the influence of intoxicants. That is the re port just issued by the treasury department. Many of these bonds were bought during the war, and are still intact. Others have been cashed, and yet hundreds of thousands 'f dollars have been put into bonds during he past year. This six millions is a good backlog for the day when perhaps the money will be needed worse than right now. The sum owned, and the thriftiness of Haywood is encouraging. I.I. Are mental patients often jeal ous of their doctors?
