Mrs. Craig Holds Open House At Beauty Shop Mrs. George Craig, proprietor of Ruth Craig's Beauty Shop, held open house on Monday to mark the forma! opening of the addition to the shop of the Norma-Tone beauty treatment. A lea table, covered with a lace cloth, was arranged in the entrance hall and assisting in serv ing were Mrs. L. F. Worthington, Miss Betsy Lane Quinlan. Mrs. C. L. Edmunds, Mrs. H. C. Ferguson, and Mrs. M. T. Bridges. Others assisting were Miss Marjorie L. Mull and Mrs. Allen Rowe, beauty operators. Vases of forsythia and spirea were used in decorating. Joseph S. Kline, franchise direc tor for Norma-Tone, lectured to the guests and demonstrated the new equipment. Mrs. Craig introduced Mrs. Frank Worthington and Mrs. James R. Thomas, Jr., who will assist the present staff of the beauty shop in operating the Norma-Tone. Mrs. Hickman Carter is leaving today for her home in Danville, Kentucky, after a visit to Mr. and Mrs. James M. Long. Leslie and Clarence Rogers have returned to their home in Morris town, N. STATE NEWS BRIEFS Body Found In Creek After a 6-day search, the body of 15-year-old Craig Stepp was found in Mud Creek, near Hen dersonville. He drowned in about eight feet of water when he tried to retrive a duck shot by a hunt ing companion. The body was found 300 yards from where he slipped in the swift current. Reaches For Wrench Killed As Wilford T. Lewis reached for a wrench as he stood atop a 112 foot steel farme, he lost his bal ance and fell to his death. He was working on the framework of a support of a boiler of a new plant for Carolina Power and Light Com pany near Lumberton. Woman Shot On Street A love affair turned sour ended in death for Mary Wooten, 52-year-old mill worker, identified by Watson Stover, who pumped two bullets into her on a busy Char lotte street. Death was imme diate. Stover said "the woman broke up my home." He is being held on a charge of murder. He is a truck driver and has six chil dren. Mrs. Wooten has a crippled husband and a son. caused by any injury in the con test. He said that a post mortem examination showed that the stu dent died of a brain hemorrhage. Killed On Power Pole Cecil Tyre Calhoun, 22, employe of the Pike Construction company, was electrocuted on a power line pole four miles east of North Wilkesboro on highway 268. He was knocked dead by the electric charge and was found dead by a passing motorist. This compared with 237. 000 cars inspected during the en tire first six months of last year. 5,506 New Autos Sold A total of 5,506 new cars and 1,875 new trucks were sold in North Carolina during January, the Motor Vehicles department re ported.
