The Bangers played a steady brand of ball throughout the tilt and led all the way to rack up the victory. OF ASH EVIL LE, N Ward's Esso Downed 2 -1 By Culsole The Ward's Esso team continued to plunge down in the standings of the Waynesville Ten Pin League this week when they were defeat ed 2 to by the A C. LawTence Cutsolers in the feature match of the week. In the other matches, the Independents stopped the Day- Ion Rubber team 2 to 1 in an up set and the Waynesville Bowling Center came through with a 2 to 1 win over the Mountaineers. The only change in the stand ings found the Bowling Center team moving out in front of Ward's to take sole possession of third place in the loop. In the feature match. Ward's downed the Cutsolers bv 86 Dins in the first game of their match, but the Cutsolers came back strong to take the last wo games and maintain their first place standing. The Dayton Rubber team turn ed in the high team gome with a 985 total and also high team series with 2.769 pin fall. Ward's had second high team series with a 2.685 series and the Independents had second high single game with 936 total. In the individual honors, "Spid er Medford. of Ward's, took hioh series honors with a 546 set and was followed closely by Bill Coch ran, also of Ward's, with a 533 set. i R. II. Stretcher, W.B.C., turned m tne high single game of the week with 201 game, while Med ford had the second high with a 197 game. Next week matches will find the Waynesville Bowling Center tangl ing with the A. C- Laurence Cut solers, Ward's meeting Dayton and the Mountaineers and independen ts rounding out the schedule. In a re-scheduled game, the Cutsol ers will meet the Mountaineers Bob McGinn Lands Berth On All-North State Team Bob McGinn wiio is better known to sports fans as the "Ace," was named on the All-North State conference basketball learn this week for the second year in a row. The selections were made by the conference coaches for the GreejiS boro Daily News. Billy Wells, former Bethel High Blue Demon star, was also named to the squad for ihe second time in two seasons. There were two oth er repeaters trom last year s team. Ted Moran. High Point, who has made the team the past three years and Larry Graham, Catawba. McGinn will be closing out his collegiate basketball career this week during the North State con ference tournament at Elkin. Bob has had one of his best years this season as he sparked the Cata mounts in game after game. He has set the scoring pace in the loop for the last six weeks and now holds a 43 point lead over his nearest rival. Unless the other players hit a high scoring streak in the tournament, the "Ace" seems a sure bi t to top the loop in scorini; honors for 1948-49. All pro ceeds from the game will go to ward the , construction of the Memorial Marker in Green Hill Cemetery. The game w ill get un derway at eight o'clock. The Waynesville High boys clos ed out their regular season sched ule Tuesday afternoon on the Waynesville High gym with twin victories over the Christ School Greenies. The Mountaineer varsity scored a 65 to 50 win and the Jay- vees came through to take a 23 to 18 victory. The Mountaineers jumped into an early lead and held a 35 to 12, lead at the half. The Greenies, sparked by the one hand pushshot artist, Dave Murray, came back strong in the last two quarters but could never forge ahead of the lo cal team. The Waynesville boys continued their effective shotmaking as they ran up their biggest scoring spree of the season. Lanky Bill Sutton, Mountaineer center, sparked the winners with a 30 point total for the afternoon. Bob Davis hit the loop for 16 points for the locals. The Waynesville team experi enced few anxious moments in their clash with the Flat Rock girls from Henderson county. With Shee han and Cogdill setting the pace, the locals ran up an 18 to 0 lead early in the game. The Flat Rock team did not score until five min utes of the second quarter were gone when Jackson hit a foul shot. The Waynesville coaches substi tuted freely in both games and used all their players.
