Swift had charge of the program at the March meet ing of the Haywood Chapter. Uni ted Daughters of the Confederacy which was held Friday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Grover Davis with Mrs. C. F. Kirkpatrick as as sociate hostess. Mrs. Swift spoke on "Why I Am a Member of the U.D.C." The L'.D.C. magazine was re viewed by Miss Robina Miller. Mrs. Sam Queen presided dur ing a brief busines ssession before the program and plans were made for an observance of Stonewall Jackson Day in April. Special guests for the afternoon were Mrs W. R. Boyd, sister of Mrs. Davis, and Mrs John Harrod Dellwood Club Meets With Mrs. Ketner The Dellwood Home Demonstra tion Club met Thursday afternoon at the home of the president, Mrs. W. D. Ketner. A demonstration on "Better Breakfasts." was given by Miss Mary Margaret Smith, home dem onstration agent. Henry Cagle. and Tommy Hornoady. Girl Scout Leaders Meet Troop Leaders of the M.colwoiid- Wavnesville Gill Scout Council held their regular monthly meeting Thursday night at the Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Myrtle Tappan. presi dent, was in charge. Clothing, which had been col lected by the girls in various troops, was brought to the meeting and six Clothing Kits were assembled for shipment overseas. Girl Scout Birthday Week was discussed and plans were made for the Scouts to attend church in a bddy on Sunday. March Li It was also announced that they would be guests of the Park Theatre on next Saturday It was decided that a first aid kit and a leathercraft set for the Hut would be bought with funds already on hand. Refreshments were served after the meeting by Mrs. Claude Allen. Mrs. Paul Davis. Mrs. Howard Clapp, and Mrs. Noel Phillips. Special guests for the meeting were Mrs. W. K. Chapman, president of the council, and Mrs. Paul Thrower. Food Sale To Be Held Friday ' A food sale will be held at the Firestone Store Friday morning, beginning at 10 o'clock. The sale is being sponsored by Circle No. 5 of the First Methodist Church Mrs. Rogers Is Nominated For State Office Mrs. Claude Rogers was nomin ited for vice-president of the Slate Classroom Teachers organization it a meeting of the locol Classroom Teachers group held at the Cent ral Elementary School last Wed nesday. The Classroom Teacher group s one of the four divisions off the North Carolina Educational Asso ciation. The election of officers will take ilace at the N.C.E.A. Conference 'o be held in Asheville in April. Mrs. Rogers is president of the local unit of the Haywood Class room Teachers. PERSONALS Mrs. Grover C. Davis, who has been visiting her husband, Rep. Bradley, and a student at Brenau College, had the leading role in a playlet, "The Wedding of Nellie Custis to Lawrence Lewis," which was enact ed by students of the Department of Speech at Brenau, as part of a Washington Birthday Celebration held in Coltingwood, near Mount Vernon, on February 21. The students were accompanied lo Washington and Mount Vernon by Mrs. Maude Fiske La Fleur, head of the Brenau Department of Speech, and author of the play. They were guests of honor at a ball, also held at Collingwood, following the presentation of the play and were entertained at other social events given by Brenau alumnae. V.F.W. Auxiliary Reaches Quota For Marker A quota of $400 has been reach ed by the Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign wars for the Memorial Marker to be erected at Green Hill Cemetery. Funds were raised by the mem bers by a series of benefits, includ ing a Valentine dance and card party. Magazine subscriptions were also sold for the project. Mrs. Sebe Bryson, president of the Auxiliary, served as chairman of the fund-raising committee.
