Bennett of the North Carolina State Col lege Extension Service will appear Thursday and Friday at a series of demonstrations on the control of wildfire and blue mold. County Agent Wayne Corpening, who made the announcement, said these demonstrations have been arranged to assist Haywood County farmers to control these diseases. The schedule: Thursday, 10 A. M. The events are scheduled to start at 8 p. m. Maggie School Principal It. R. Feretison reported that a dozen bands and individual performers, including Fiddling Masters Uncle Billy Evans and Cal Messer, had entered the contest by Saturday. More entries are expected before the event gets under way. Uncle Billy, a Maggie citizen, and Cal, from Cataloochee Ranch, are both widely recognized as ex perts in their art. But they face strong competition for honors in this department from other musi cians. Prizes will be awarded for the best performances by fiddlers and by bands as units. The entry list also includes Rufus Buff and Bob Rich of Maggie with their Lumber Jacks Bands; Wilbur Whidden's Band from Waynesville; the Setzer Brothers, familiar to North Carolina radio audiences; Billy Moore and his sisters from Aliens Creek; Ted Clark's and Carroll Best's band from Clyde, route 1; the Primary and Grammar Grade Rhythm Band of Maggie School, directed by Mrs. Estelie Allison; Bert Finney, Waynesville route 1, with the Burton and Nell Band from Waynesville; Howard Thompson's Dixie Band of Way nesville; and Edgar Pressley's Band from Canton, who also has appeared on radio programs. The Maggie School Rhythm Band will start off the contests, and each unit will play at least two numbers. Last year's convention attracted more than 400 music-lovers who saw some 70 musicians in action. If Friday's session matches the 1948 event, the spectators will get another solid evening of solid en tertainment for their 75 cents ad mission price. Mr. Ferguson announced that Mrs. Edith P. Alley, and Mrs. Jess Crouser, both of Waynesville, and Mrs. Harry McCracken would serve on a board of five Judges. He added he would name two men to the other positions.
