The advantage of this regional I.K.wci center is. fundamental . this: The people of lhee 21 counties large quantities of every known type of blood, including the rare I pes. In turn, each hospital in these i counties can get supplies of every j blood type from the regional cen- J ter in quantity and quickly. , The point is that this regional J center will be able to supply a hospital with a necessary quantity of a rare type that the hospital might not be able to find quickly it at all in its own conynunitv. After the blood goes to the Ashe ville center, it is distributed from there, as whole blood or derivat ies. to the hospitals in this region in quantities that the hospitals saj they need. Red Cross officials say their organization sponsors the program, that the program itself is, earned out by the people of the individual communities under the direction of the hospitals. Malcolm Williamson, i pastor of the Waynesville Presby terian Church, complimented the members on their action to de ivelop and beautify the Valley for ' its possibilities as a tourist center. Mrs. James Robert Plott. Jr.. was elected secretary of the Club ' to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Mrs. A W. Phil lips. Carl Henry was appointed chairman- of a membership committee, and Mr- Beit Wakgrct-n and Ches ter I.a Fontaine were named member- lo serve with him. The ap pointments were made by Fred Campbell. Club president. A community betterment and service committee also was ap pointed with James R. Plott, Sr.. I 'chairman: Charles F. Owens. Phillips, chairman of the commit tee which had been appointed to work on these matters. Cannon i right stands in police court at Asheville and hears Judge Reed Kitcnin sentence him to serve three and a half years on the roads and pay a fine of S5.000. He was convicted of violating gambling laws and conspiring to violate them. Beside him stands his attorney. I. C. Crawford.
