' LENNOX WORLD'S LARGEST MANUFACTURERS AND ENGINEERS OF WARM AIR HEATING SYSTEMS Kifty-six volunteers gave a pint of blood each to launch the Ameri can Red Cross Program in Hay- Iwood County last Thursday. The next dav, seven pints were delivered to the Haywood County Hospital at Waynesville by Red Cross officials from the Regional Blood Center el Asheville. Dr. Tom Stringfleld accepted this shipment from W. H. Kidd, administrative director of the Asheville center. With Mr. Kidd were B. A. Morris, blood custodian of the regional center: and Canton Program Chairman Carl Ander son. Lee D.-u-is, H-iywood Hospital administrator, and Superintendent of Nurses Ellen Freeman witnessed the brief ceremony. In this first donation to the Haywood Hospital were three pints each of blood types A positive and O positive, and one pint of B pos itive, which is a relatively rare type. The donors at Canton were se lected by physical examination from the 71 volunteers who appear ed at the Champion YMCA Gym nasium in Canton In response to the Canton Red Cross chapter's favor recruitment drive. The nurses and doctors working in the program drew the blood from the donors into bottles. Then each of the bottles was labelled to indicate the blood type, and re turned to the Asheville regional here. The Bloodniobilc will make visits every other month hereafter to "v aynesville and Canton to return the donations to the Asheville cen ter. From there. the reserves of blood and derivatives will be dis tributed to hospitals of the region in accordance to stated requirements. Aiding in the program at Canton were members of a local commit tee headed by Mrs. Harmon Moore who registered the volunteers and recorded the medical information concerning each. The cots and equipment in the donor room were set up by Gilbert Fisher and Ciande Baldwin. The technical staff included. Dr. Margaret Burns. Chief Nurse Lola Laffay, and Nurses Lucy Davis, Jean Graham. Louise Coleman, and Mrs. Neil Lannine.
