ACTIVITIES BEN SLOAN, Society Editor Mrs. David Hyatt Is Hostess Of Two Parties Mrs. David Hyatt was hostess of a coffee hour given at her home on Walnut Street Saturday morning. Durirg the first hour guests were greeted by Mrs. Howard Hvatt. Miss Nancy Hyatt received in the hflll and presiding at the coffee taDle were Mrs. w. A Hvatt and her guest, Mrs. Frank Jenkins of Bayside, Long Island. During the second hour Mrs. L. K. Barbei received at the front door, Miss Nancy Hyatt was in the hall, and Mrs. Herbert Buchanan and Mrs. Ernest Hyatt poured. The dining table was covered with a lace cloth and had as a centerpiece a silver bowl of moun tain laurel. Arrangements of oink and white peonies and lavender ins qumpieiea ine dining room decorations and mixed spring (low ers were used throughout the rest of the house. Around forty-five guests called during the hours from ten-thirty to twelve-thirty. Mrs. Hyatt entertained again on Saturday afternoon with a coca cola party. Haywood Folk At Barbecue Given For Congressmen About thirty from Havwood county attended the barbecue giv en by Harry Plavford at his farm near Hendersonvllle Saturday eve ning for the visiting Congressmen in this area. The occasion was an informal affair, and after the barbecue, a square dance was held, at which time the Congressmen were pre sented to the several hundred guests by Rep. Monroe M. Redden. Art Awards Announced By Club The Waynesville Woman's Club's annual awards to the outstanding art students of the Waynesville High School graduating class were announced today by Mrs. Virgil Smith, chairman of the club's art department. Miss Dorothy Hoglan won honors as the student who has shown most improvement in art during the year. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Hoglan of Waynes ville. Fay Buchanan was named for ai other award for having shown "greatert respect toward people and materials in art" during the year. Woman's Club Hears School Contest Winners The Waynesville Woman's Club held its last meeting of the year on Thursday afternoon im the As sembly Room of the Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Frank Kinsey presid ed. Mrs. Douglas Grant, chairman of education, was in charge of the program and presented the win ners in the recitation contest spon sored by the club for girls in the Waynesville Hieh School. Stewart of Lancaster, Calif., Mrs. Guy Withers of Washington, D. C. Mrs. J. Ward Borine of Ox ford, and Mrs. Early G. Lee of Asheville, who are her guests.
